my findings are true duals eliminated heat from the crossover on my right leg and my wife's right leg....did nothing to reduce engine temps....correct on the poster who said a remap will reduce engine temps
ORIGINAL: eglidetrike I tired them and it just felt like it was now hotter on the left side.
Took 'em off and went back to stock
Did you add the sert and put the bike on the dyno? I find it hard to believe that making the engine run richer and adding TD's that the bike would run as hot or add extra heat that you would go back to stock pipes.
Did you have decel popping or the pipes were to loud and that made you go back to stock? What TD's did you buy?
Don't mis understand me I am just wanting to understand your reasons for going back to stock since this is an upgrade I am considering
I asked this question as a result of a recent discussion I had with a guy I work with. I thought duals alone did nothing to reduce engine temps, he swears that duals will reduce temperatures. In general he is more knowledgable than me regarding bikes. I don't want to argue with the guy, just wanted to get the low down on this topic.
If they are real restrictive as new Mufflers are,the pipes themselves couldsaturate hotter then aftermarket. But I doubt it would be detectable to the un-calibrated leg either way. That said I run a power curve..... (Loop under the seat).... I have no heat issues with the legs or nuts. The truth is what has alreadybeen identified, time after time. Fatten them mixtures up a bit andthe engines exhaust temperature decreases noticibly with any pipe configuration to the uncalibrated leg.
Everything I have read concludes that an exhaust and/or AC change will make the engine run even leaner--and hotter. You have to compensate with a SERT or fuel tuner just to get back tofactory normal and then richen the mix up from that to get a heat reduction. Or you canjust add a fuel tuner if you if all you want is heat reduction.
