About 2 yrs ago, asked the same question and never got a reply.

I was wondering if anyone still had the head temp gauges with spark plug ring sensors. I'm sure someone who programs knows something since the head temp should be in the mix some place?

Sorry no help.

Oil temperature indicates 220 degrees +/-

I agree w/Karl. If you are seeing much over 300, you need to start thinking about tune.

I also have an infared temp meter and shot my heads once - was like 280 (rear was like 30 degrees hotter). Would not recommend the "wet your finger sizzle test". All this lead me to get the MoCo fan and a MoCo oil cooler - I think she feels much better now.

mines tuned and planning on riding today.
Expected temps at 6200 feet is 29 degrees F.
Plan on being at 8500 feet. Will take my temp gun along and record some readings for you.

Do a google search for head temp gauges and you wil find they still make the gauges that use a pickup (thermocouple) that fits under the seat of the spark plug. These are primarily intended for use on airpcraft, but could be adapted. The sending units for the Dakota Digitals just clamp onto the head I believe.

Someone has posted the question in another thread if anyone has figured out how to splice into the engine temp sensor on the front head to allow the use of a head temp gauge and use the sensor as the sending unit for both operations. I have yet to see a reply, but I bet there is some electronic genius out there that will eventualy figure it out.

I had sctually considered buying one of the Dakota Digital CHT guages & two sending units and switching the signal lead via micro switch. That way I could read either, at any time, while riding... particularly what you get in those situations when you really wonder how how things are getting... Rally traffic, etc.... but then agian, it may be better for "me" not to know...???....

Spoke with Kevin @ HQ a couple weeks ago about a 120" build...head temps were also brought up.
According to him, head temps in the 320* range is the area he likes to see.
