Default SERT install?

Should a computor novice attemp to install a canned map? I have latest sert version and cables on the way from Zanottis. Local dealer wants $89 to install caned map no dyno. I think that is alittle high. Should I try? I have laptop (daughters) Thanks

Well I am not a computer novice, just the opposite. However I was thinking about doing this too. I already have the SERT that I bought with my bike but was on back-order for 3 mths. In the interim I bought the FP so I could do stage 1. Now I am wondering if I should use the SERT to load a canned map and sell the FP or sell the SERT. I may in the future do some stage 2 stuff so keeping the SERT makes since.....

Edit: BTW I have loaded the software and it looks fairly simple to load the map, the only issue you might be challenged with is whether or not you have an RS232c serial port available on your laptop or if you will need an adapter from USB to RS-232c....

If you read the manual on how to do the install you can do it yourself. If your daughters are computer saavy at all they can do it for you. Besides they would be happier spending your 89.00 on some shoes or something!

You can do it! Usually the only probem people most have is the fact most lap tops don't have serial ports. They have usb ports so you have to buy a usb to serial adapter. Most people find the Belkin brand works best and you can buy them at office supply stores. So you can decide if after another purchase you still find it cheaper. If your not using a laptop you shouldn't have any problems just hook up the cables and load the map.

Nothing to it. Save your money. If you do a search you will see a couple of simple things to watch out for but it isn't difficult at all. Make sure your bike has a good charge on the battery and make sure if you use a laptop that it is plugged in to 120 volt power. If the battery voltage drops and the laptop goes in to hibernation during the down load you could have a problem. other than that it's pretty idiot proof. Must be I did mine.

Another vote here, it was very easy to install. Used canned map but max'd clb values. Like hubble noted, seconds to do

Just do the "get VIN" button a few times - makes sure the communications is working okay - then hit the "program" button. Any case, as simple as loading a file and hitting a couple buttons.

Super easy to do, in terms of loading in a canned map. Tuning it, well that takes a little more work, but still realitively easy.
