Default RE: Help; Front wheel spacer question????

I just checked my Fat Boy, it has only one rotor, and it has about half the resistance as my newly installed Street Glide, with two rotors, wheel. (I know everyone knows that they have two rotors; just restating the obvious.) I wonder ifthis should explain the increased resistance.

If I grab the frond wheel and give it a good spin; it will turn about one rotation on its own before stopping. I hate to beat this in the ground I just want to be safe. I guess I am also trying to save some money by doing it my self.

Thanks again for all the help.

I think your ok, the pads on the brakes will touch the rotor so it will not spin free. There will be some drag

Also remember youhave brand new bearings that are packed with cold grease. You could remove the calipers and see how easy it spins. Should have a slight resistance to it (new bearings). When installing the calipers, make sure they are centered.

If everything is lined up and it's spins a turn or two I'd run it. As everyone stated, some slight brake pad drap is normal. BTW, Mine did almost the same thing with OEM Wheel and factory dual rotors.

If your calipers haven't been cleaned in a while you should try this. http://motorcyclemetal.com/subpage5.html. Could be some drag due to dirty caliper pistons. If you have two front rotors try this. With the front wheel off the ground, and the RIGHT side bottom axle nuts loose(they face the ground), give the wheel a good spin and as it's spinning grab the front brake lever firmly. This will center the lower fork holding the caliper. Keep pressure on the brake until you've tightened up these two nuts. This could help with some drag. My bike always seems to drag a bit with new pads for a while, but seems to loosen up after a few miles. If yours drags too much, be careful! You could warp the rotor/rotors! This happened to me, not a cheap fix! Also when you put on a new wheel no matter what, it won't be the same EXCACT measurements as your last wheel, and your bike will need to adjust to it. I'd just be careful if there's too much drag.

If you put them in wrong the wheel will not be centered between the forks.
So just swap them around to get the closest center.

Huh, that's weird mine as qouted says "Be sure that the grooves on external spacers, or index pin on front wheel speed sensor (if ABS equipped) are on the outboard side. If not ABS equipped then spacers are interchangeable from left to right." This is on my 08 manual, maybe it has since changed.

Dawg - I believe it did change for '08. I'm pretty certain my '07 manual states the left side wheel spacer is the one that has the notches and they are to be placed on the bearing side. I can confirm tonight.

I still think the problem here is the rotors being off center now, or the fender rubbing as another poster suggested.
