I have an 07 ultra and caried it in for the IDS upgrade The bike has 5500 miles on it and the back tire is slick. This bike has been babied and not run hard or aggresive. Has anyone else had a tire wear out this quick?
The amount of weight you carry and the air pressure you run can make a big difference. You didn't mention what brand tire it is, if its the stock Dunlop you should have gotten way more than that.
NOT POSSIBLE.... IM RIDING DRESSER (MANY) SINCE 1993.. 10K MINIMUM MILEAGE ON REAR TIRE (NORMAL RIDER) MANY FRIENDS.. SAME BIKE.. SAME TIRE ALL 10K MINIMUM.
SOMETHING IS WRONG.. OVER OR UNDER INFLATED.. OR UR ACCELERATING WAY TOO HARD.. ITS A DUNLOP 402 YES ??? HAD 1 BUD HAVE A CHUNK OF THE 402 FALL OFF... HE'S IN SO. FLORIDA...LOTSA HEAT ... HGWY RIDING .. BUT THATS IT ! THAT TIRE IS NORMALLY VERY GOOD.
I have 6000 miles on my tire and it seems to be low on tread also. My bike ismainly on the highway so its not like I'm doin any burn outs either.Good question because I was wondering the same thing.

It is the original tire. Most of my riding is two up and I keep a close eye on tire pressure. With 2 up I keep 40 lbs. in it.

Befor this bike I had an 04 RK same 2 up 40 lbs. It had a 95 kit it it and I rode it hard accelerating all the bad things and I always got 10,000 out of the tires.
I'm at 11k on my stock and I honestly think I'll get another 1-2k out of it. I was planning on replacement at 10K (given that's the life I used to get out of a rear on my other bike) but I'll not complain.
5500 seems like a pretty low number unless you like doing burnouts.
