can i drive a solid rod through my stock mufflers (knocking out the baffles)and run that for 200miles or so and see if i want to go loud or not.will this hurt my engine at all?thanks Zach
Ive seen in here where a few have done it, they wernt happy,,, quote," sounds like chit,, bike runs like chit",,, besides if ya ever need to go back to stock for the cops/epa..etc,,, your pipes are ruined
well my uncle has opened up a shop of his own.he went to burlington,WA for his internship at skagit harley and while he was there he did alot of muffler swaps,so he got to keep all the stock one's and bring them home with him so he gave me a set to try so i will still have my stock one's to put back on.my ? is will it hurt the bike in a 200 mile ride today(poker run)?if so i'm putting the stock one's back on.
well the reason i ask is my uncle isn't really up to date on the fuel injected bikes of 07-up he grad.in like 02-03 from pitt stae harley tech school so they delt with carb bikes and he's afrai i might blow the engine? what do you think?thanks Zach
electaRick gives some good advise and so did some others. If you dont plan on doing a build of your engine, then the slipons of your choice, most any aftermarket air cleaner or even the HD SE setup, and a tuner will get you where you want to be.
There is a huge difference in the sound of the various slipons, and also complete systems,, so I would suggest you go to some bike nights, gatherings, listen to the bikes as they come and go and when you hear what you want, ask the rider what he is sunning for mufflers. The PC III is a good basic tuning system for basically stock bikes, and you can get them pre-loaded with varius maps depending on the setup you are running.
As others suggested, a full exhaust system is nice, but not necessary. No need to go to a T-Max Autotune, DTT or SERT unless you want, or are planning future mods.
And BTW, 6 hours of dyno time is not excessive when talking about a modified engine , especially with the SERT. That is why I run the DTT, dyno time is optional to get the tune close to optimum.
Last thing to do is really step back, and think through what you may or will be doing in the future and plan your purchases around that. You can drop a lot of money and then have to repurchase different items when making changes down the road.
i'll probably end up calling fuelmoto but in the mean time i will be going on a poer run today i have drove a solid rod through a stock set of mufflers that were gave to me so i still have the stock ones to put back on. will having straight pipes hurt my engine on a 200 mile ride or so?if so i'm changing back to stock.thanks Zach
thank you so much i just wanted to see if i would like the bike being loud without spending alot of money so this is my only solution and i didn't want to lock up or fry my motor from running to lean.thanks Zach
