mtclassic, how about a link to Jireha as Lyn requested. $225 sounds quite a bit better than $300 direct from Doherty for PowerPacc & Vents. Would like to get one for the new '08. Thanks

Be careful with Jireh the one they sell is for the carb bike, they are wholesale only with absolute no customer support with part numbers or fitment they just don't know. I ordered the one they had but was for a carb bike, so I had to send it back which they credited with no problem ended up getting the right one after talking to Mark at mandmcycles btw Jireh only sells by phone they like to talk to the customer which is kinda strange they don't have any better part support the nice Lady told me she couldn't verify part numbers as they use their own or fitment. Jireh part #39-453 is for carb bikes.
Just for your information, many riders are replacing the stock Doherty air filter element with the Zippers filter, it flows more and fits the twin cam air cleaners. You have to drill new holes in the filter and use spacers on the standoffs.
Also, when I installed my unit I bought the crank case breather and filter kit. I was surprised by how much blowby I was getting. I would strongly recommend doing this.
IF YOU WANT TO RUN IT ON AN 08 YOU HAVE TO REDRILL AND TAP THE HOLE TO USE THE SECOND BREATHER TUBE. THE BLUE PLUG ONE ON THE LEFT SIDE LINES UP WITH THE BACK OF THE ELECTRONIC THOTTLE. SO YOU CANT PUT THE BREATHER ELBOW ON. THAT IS THE ONE YOU HAVE TO RE-DRILL AND TAP!

Do you have a picture of this application?? thanks.. I have an 08 and am going with a Doherty..
man that took a while to get mine. ordered on the 16th and just got it today. 2 times the order got lost by UPS. 3rd one came fedex. beautiful and easy to install. My breather bolt threads were not chromed and went in just like the stock breathers no fuss no muss. I was able to screw them in with my fingers until they bottomed out and needed to be torqued. The little velocity stack sure matches up nice to the 40cv and definetly has to provide a nice laminar effect compared to the SE back plate.
I am usinga round SE cover just like the one shown in this thread and it fits nice and gives a nice big pocket for air to get in.
My main reason for using the cover is I used to run with an open cover on my SE set up and I was doing oil analysis and every oil change that I was running without the coverit came back with high silica count and when I ran the cover it came back low silica count. Nothing changed, intervals the same everything except the cover non cover. I believe that at speed little bits of dirt penetrate the filter. I did use the little spacer provided so it gives even more breathing room.
I can not imagine needing a more freer flowing filter unless you have a monster motor. I do not believe any 95 or 103 is going to out breath this filter.
I was a little disappointed in the nipples that go into the power vents as the Doherty website shows them being machined and the ones I got are cheap plastic 90 degree nipples. Other than that it is a thing of beauty and a shame that it is covered up.
The setup is a beautiful piece.... as has been said ~ "a work of art".
I agree that the plastic nipples were a bit cheesy, as were the blue plastic plugs in the backplate. A quite trip to the local tractor supply fixed that for less than a couple bux.
I went ahead and installed one of the larger Zippers filters and a Dewey's billet cover. I do have to admit that the billet cover is the first thing I've had powdercoated that may have actually looked better before the PC... Guess I'll have to have the Doherty packplate PC's too. That will probably make the cover look less "plain".
As far as rain & other crap that may prematurely contaminate the filter goes.... I use a K&N filter condom all the time. I've used it on my open Geralomy filter for over a year and it works just fine regardless of weather conditions.
