I don't like riding mountain roads when sharing them with RV's going slow and crossing the centerline, etc., HOWEVER, this rider is not too skilled. You go where you look! I am an expert licensed road racer and promise you all that YOU GO WHERE YOU LOOK!!! He should have set up the pass, and been looking at where he wanted to go. Plan the pass and the following corner.A good example is how his partner following was looking at him and went off the road also. The RV folks should have stopped and helped out with communication, first-aid supplies, whatever. If I saw them later on down the road, I would be pissed off about their driving off and let them know just how I would feel at that point! If we all just showed a little courtesy and care for each other, the world would not be so stressful! The RV people do have the right to drive the roads, but courtesy and consideration for the safety of others dictates that they could slow down and pull over when blocking a group of faster motorcycles, and stop to help render aid when involved in an accident. I guess the ONLY group I ever see helping out an accident victim or stranded bike, is us Harley-Davidson riders!!!
Hmm well the f'in RV never should have been there... the RV was causing untold misery blocking the road and such. That being said thefoolish rideron the bike made a huge mistake and paid for it, hopefully not too damned badly... definitely do NOT stop as that monstrosity would be a huge road block. The entire event could have been avoided by limiting the access to a large beast like the RV. Hope that dude is OK
You are a true moron. They have just as much of a right to the road as us. Are you the azzhole on the bike that went in the ditch who passed on a double line in that video? It's people like you that give us bikers a bad name. Think before you open your mouth.
Unfortunately it looked like the rider(s) crossed a double yellow. Nothing good comes of that. But like another poster pointed out as narrow and windy as the road was the RV would have been more of another potential accident for other motorist, 2 wheeled or otherwise. Now had there been no one else (the rider looked like he had a few friends) the RV has a moral obligation,no? At least if nothing else to acess and maybe make a phone call?
That was a wild movie I think I have to watch it again.
This is a classic example of "there must be more to the story". I'm guessing the guys in the RV thought they were going to get their asses kicked for a reason. Were they purposely not using the turnouts? Was their some hand jesturing going on by either group? Something else is going on in my opinion. I find it hard to believe a group of people in a RV thinks they are going to get beat up because some idiot on a bike doesn't know how to ride and tried a pass like that.
My sister and mother are both nurses so I'm well versed on what bikers are called in hospitals - "organ donors". They even co-opted my brother into their anti-motorcycle group. How have you stayed married for so long to a nurse?? How does she live with herself knowing that her husband is an organ donor??
Does anyone know what happened to the biker that left the rode?
How do you guys know the vehicle was an RV? I thought it was a van of some sort. Either way, it is no way the 4 wheeled vehicles fault.
People say they other tourists should have stopped.....With the bad *** image that lots of bikers like to put on, why would they? They were obviously afraid they would be blamed for the accident judging from the guy's comments that can be heard.
i have been on this road. im not saying this vehicle caused to scoot accident in any way.. but i will say that other roads have weight restrictions and such on them.. with that said, a large motorhome or tractor trailer should be restricted from this road.. it is not due to bikers wanting to go fast.. the road is so tight, twisty and abrupt changes in elevation that they HAVE to drive on the wrong side of the road just to make the turns (ant that is still tight on some turns) i have seen pictures of long wheel base vehicles bottomed out and stuck on the roadway due to the elevation change.... fwiw its not to benifit the guys on scoots.. its just flat out they do not fit properly down this 11 mile stretch....

RE: Monday Morning QB Analysis
First, only the OP used the words "RV".
There isn't any clue in the video as to what sort of vehicle it actually is. It could have been a utility truck, a van, whatever.
Whatever it was, it DID seem to be doing the speed limit...which is either 30 or 35 through there depending.
I actually think alot of non-bikers are going to feel some threat from a group of bikers. Hell, you never know. Particularly if the bikers are cheesed at you for "causing" an accidentinvolving one of their buddies. You could well be risking an ***-beating.
And the final sentence spoken in the video is by the driver saying "I would have pulled over but there was noplace to pull over" (meaning right there at the scene of the accident).
The driver definitely did not seem to be doing anything wrong, as the others have already said the rider crossed a double yellow, got going too fast going downhill, couldn't swerve back into his lane given that curve, went into a skid and sailed right off the road. It certainly seemed to me that it was the rider's fault, not the drivers, as the root cause of the accident.

We have been married for 31 years ....it took 30 of those years to get her to concider a bike. I would not get one unless she tried it ONCE. Now I can't get her off the back. Any time any weather!! So she realizes that she too is a donor. Fun going to Hospital dinners and some one brings up the organ donor thing. WE tell them that we ride all the time, like 200 miles for lunch, and how it gets so quiet around the table is really fun. Uncomfortable for them but fun for me!! I tell them that this life is not a dry run for the next one so better start having a little fun now. And this is from a 59 year old teenager.
