Default Driver back rest for 08 Classic

I did a search for the HD adjustable back rest for the driver. The majority of the posts were older. I did see that many riders felt the adjustable back rest was poorly designed by HD as it pushed the driver too far forward. Some members made a few speed adjustments with a hammer to get the position of the back rest farther back. Some even put washers under the back rest assembly and were able to get an extra 1.5". Has anyone recently installed the adjustable HD backrest on a 08 Classic or Ultra? I was hoping that HD got the issue addressed. I am not too excited about making the speed adjustments. Especailly since I will not pick up my new 08 for another week from the dealer. Gettin pretty excited.

I installed an adjustable driver backrest on my '07 SG. It is the same one out of the Harley catalog. I have not had any problems with not having enough room or being pushed to far forward.Maybe, itcould be that I am shorter than other riders you have talked to. I am 5' 9" and have back problems. Hence, the reason I purchased the back rest.I have enjoyed my backrest for the lower back support. My only complaint is that the way I sit in the saddle up against the backrest. Iput a small pillow at the very bottom the backrest on top of the seat, to give myself the extra support that I need. All in all, I have beenhappy with the product. I would recommend one to everyone who does long distance riding.Maybe tryingone out would be possible if one of your compadres had one, or a demo. Best of luck.

Later,

JB

JB,

How much did the backrest cost you? Where did you get it? Mickey likes it and wants one for himself.

Nice scoot.

After reading some of the same posts, I decided to go with the Mustang driver's backrest for my '08 UC. It can be used with either the HD seat or Mustang.

The fit and finish is very close to the stock HD seat and they also produce an "offset post" that allows the backrest to lean back an additional two inches.

Might be worth checking out.
