My '96 FLHR is at 99,700 miles now and has had nothing but Dunlops mounted. Not once in the nine years I've owned the bike, riding through 33 states in all kinds of weather, have these tires given me one moment of intrigue or fear. For that reason, I'm hesitant to try Metzler 880's, although I'm sure they would perform as well. But, if it ain't broke....
Oddly, I managed to get 14k on the first four or five rear Dunlops, but the last two have been replaced at around 12k. Is the Dunlop rubber getting softer? I'm still inflating to 40psi cold, check them regularly, and my riding habits have not changed. I'm on my third front tire, but it is ready for replacement. Doing the math, I've averaged 35k on the first two, but the last has 30k now and is ready for replacement.
I have had Metzler tires on about 7 months The rear was replaced at 4800 miles and the front is now cracked and rotten Just talked to thedealer and they will call to see what thay can do 2 days no return call yet The tires have a date of 5/06 on them
