I installed the SE big sucker intake on my 08 SG last week and when I calld my dealer to ask about the download it needed, here is what they said.
" the download costs $150.00 and we will need your bike for approx. 4 hours plus you will have to pay for dyno time if needed."
Now my question is, can this download be obtained anywhere else? do I have to dyno the bike? I do not have the SERT or any aftermarket pipes as of yet.
My next question is, I do plan on getting a SERT in month or so and possibly some slip on's. Should I wait and have the download done then so it is all done at the same time? I just wish I could do it myself and save the money that the dealer charges. Thank you all for your help I will be awaiting any information and all is appreciated.
The SERT will negate the d/l from the dealer. Save the $150 and get the SERT it will do any of the d/ls you are looking for. I cannot see how they can charge you for dyno time, seeing they cannot adjust anything from just a simple Stage 1 d/l. If you had a SERT, then that is a drifrent storey. Plus, 4 hours to keep your bike to do a 10min (max) d/l procedure. I smell something funny.
That's BS! The download takes 10 minutes and there's nothing to dyno. Since you have the AC, you need to address the ECM now though. The SERT is the way to go butis no longer available, it has been replaced by amore expensive Super Tuner that ties you even closer to the dealer and costs a lot more $$. It does have additional capabilities granted. Any SERT's still available are now NewOldStock. Ebay is a good place to find em in the $350 range then you can do it yourself and tell the dealer to go screw themselves!
I went with the power commander III. You can download any new map combination from their web site for free. You can even create your own. I do however recommend once you have all of these addons done do get the bike on a dyno. You will notice a dialed in difference. I gained about 10hp and 10 tork.
Don't bother with the download, just put that money towards a decent fuel management system. But I wouldn't be riding that bike until its on unless you put your stock a/c on.
I bought a new SERT on Ebay recently for $235. If you take your time, you can get a good deal. There are several for sale right now. Be sure to get the newest version for your bike. I have an 07 and I bought the 32107-01H. The letter at the end denotes how current it is.
I believe that the only difference is the software that is included which includes the newer maps. The newer SERTs do not include cables which is not an issue for me. All you're really buying when is a connector that allows you to access the ECM and make changes to the programming. Seems like the hardware would cost about $10 and the rest is pure profit for HD!!!
The software is not an issue either because I'll be taking my bike to Latus Motors for a dyno tune as soon as the weather allows. Had an appointment today but it's snowing so I did the smart thing and cancelled.
Keep in mind that I'm not an expert on the SERT by any means. I doubt if there are very many experts on this forum. If an expert reads this and anything I've posted is incorrect, please post a correction. Thanks.
