I own a 2007 Police Road King. Whichcruise control unit is the correct one? The catalog shows two part numbers: 77198-07 for the FLHRS and 77197-07 for the FLHR. The catalog does not list one specifically for the FLHP. The rube at the stealer cannot tell me.....which does not surprise me one bit....has anybody else with an 07 FLHP added cruise? Thx!
You should call HD tech support since dealers typically know little about the wiring differences between civilian and police models. I have an '04 FLHTPI and although it has the cruise control connector (under the left side cover)that plugs into the HD cruise modulethat comeswith the HD cruise kit,the bike's wiring harnesslacked some of the wiring necessary to have a functioning cruise control unit.
Another good source of information isDave, the ownerof Cruisemount--he probably knows more about installingHD cruise control on police bikes than anyone else. The website is Cruisemount.com.
I looked briefly at my police and civilian wiring diagrams in the HD Service Manuals for the '04 Models, and the FLHP does lack some of the wiring found on the RK Classic needed for cruise control. Whether this wiring is supplied in the Road King kits or not I don't know.
The fact that the HD fitment information for the cruise control kit doesn't list you police RK is a pretty strong indicator that the HD kits won't work as a plug and play accessory on an FLHP. Dave, at Cruisemount, provided what I needed for a successful installation of the HD cruise control on my FLHTPI.
Or you be a bit creative and save a bit on by using the exisiting buttons on the left grip (horn/siren and Siren on/off) for the controls. I installed a 93 model cruise on a 99 FLHPI that way. One thing to remember is if you have replaced the tail light with an LED unit of any type, you will need to put in a relay on the brake sensor line in order for the unit to function correctly. LEDs carry a nominal voltage even when they are off so the sensor line reads it as 'BRAKE ON' even when they are not engaged.
If you have or can get one of the Police Model manuals for your bike along with a regular shop manual, you will have no problems running the leads. Some of the Police bikes have the extra wiring from the cop equipment still on them and using it ( I added small labels to mine for later reminders) saves a lot of running cables in hard to reach places.
