I just traded my 06 EGC for the 08 Ultra and I swapped over my Vance & Hines Oval slip ons and did a hi-flow air filter and got the VH Fuelpak and installed it in a matter of minutes. Depending on what many people call a Stage 1 upgrade this is all you have to do. On the 08's you can't get the Stage 1 download anymore so you will have to choose a fuel management device and I feel like the fuelpak is the least expensive route to go and even a 5th grader can install it in no time.
You better check this out. No Download for the 08???? That's news to me?? I think your getting taken for a fuel pack. The dealer I deal with is putting on the stage 1with RH TD's on the 08 RG. The stage 1 includes the Flash of the ECM along with the High flow A/C. There is no mention of a fuel pack.I asked him Flat out when I was signing the papers on Jan 5th.
Even on these forms, I've never read any post stating that. I've read that with just slip ons you can get away from not flashing or changing the ECM...... but when you add the High flow......you pretty much have to.
Anyone else have a link to this?? I'd like to see this for myself. I've got to go in on the 9th and get all the extras ordered so they are here and avalable when the bike gets in at the end of the month.
If this is fact and not a load of BS some dealer is shoveing on someone........My dealer and I are going to have a few words!!
Do yourself a big favor. Get the bike, run it like it comes for the first 1k. Bring it in for the first service (go with synthetic oil) and get the SERT, air cleaner, pipes of your choice, and have it dyno tuned. You drop it off in the morning and pick it up the same day running cooler and better. Forget all that other crap unless you like tinkering with your bike with devices designed to fool you system into running ok. The dyno is a must. You will then be happy and finished unless and untill you want more.
i have a08 s/g with rush slip ons, s/e air cleaner. the dealer did the h.d. download at 149.00 plus 75.00 labor. my bike runs o.k. ,but runs hot, pops at deceleration. i am not real happy and thinking about going another route.
I got the '08 UC with the Rush slip ons, SE AC kit with download, and SERT. Love it. Will have it DYNO'd at the 1000 mile service (dealer recommended holding off till then). that my 2 cents.
My Apologies to Peppa1. I was at the dealership today getting my parts for the RG when it comes in. Apperantly the 07 and early 08's were forced to install a fuel pack. they've changed something in it (I believe) and there is a download for it now.
It goes by this number:
34236-06/DT........ CART ST 1 DIG TECH (Downloadable) $230.99
jjs..... if all you are lookin for is a little more sound,,, you can drive away from the dealer with JUST pipes,, no need for anything else........
5,000 miles tells me so!!
heywood,, looks like ya might be confused on fp... fuel pak is from V&H, it plugs into your HD computer = ECM, thus givin ya more fuel, same as a PC111.
HD's version of adjusting the ECM, is just downloading info to the ECM
1 is stage 1 download for like $140,,, the other is more radical called SERT for like $400
I'm not sure? He was pretty specific on having to add something that wasn't HD. He did say FP, but he could have been using that for an example. This may have been when the 08's first came out and they didn't have, and didn't know when the flash would come.
The price is what itis on my invoice along with the order number quoted above. That's current as Feb9/08. It might be more expensive here..... but $100 more?? That's without tax as well.

The $140 download (mine is perfect with the SE slipons and the SE a/c) is for people who do not plan on any further engine mods. The SERT (Screaming Eagle Race Tuner) is a better choice for those people who are planning on continual engine mods that will require retuning for each mod. The POS dealers will never tell you this because the service writers areon commission and make more money by selling a customer the far more expensive SERT+ dyno.
