I cut mine off and used chrome hot toppers. Looks great. The back edge of the hot toppers go back under the chrome fender rail coverabout a 1/4 of an inch.

I cut mine off and used little chrome caps that didn't fit real well. I added a touch of automotive GOOP and glued them in place. I drilled a small hole in the center of the cap then added metal spikes I found on e-bay cheap. Had two left over so I drilled and tappped my grip ends so now they match.
