I did mine last spring also. Did take some time. Oddly the clutch side went fine and only took me about 20 minutes. The throttle side for whatever reason turned in to a PITA. Took about 1.5 hours. Still don't know why the right side was so blasted hard. Did completed it and all works well.
Bonus is I got to do it again when I installed the chrome switch housing my bride bought mefor my birthday in December!
i did mine myself and would agree. probably one of the biggest pita things to do on the bike. i hope the guy that puts these things together for a living at the moco either has a lot of patience or one helluva short fuse...lol
electromechanical tech by trade i never let the stealer touch my scoot.did the switches myself and that was one occasion i wish i took it in.is a real PITA,07 street glide with cruise control.the right side is the real reason.if not carefull the brake switch goes by-by really quick.
never pull on the front brake hard insted get a flashlight and look under.the switch plunger is vissible and you could tell right away if is not in the correct place also do not tied the holding screws just yet only turn them by hand and stop and check.it will save you a lot of heartache.
hey i tell ya my first harley was a fatboy carburated(i miss her very much)
during chubbys install i took every strand od wire of from the plug under the tank.i do not beleive in cutting and splicing it invites problems and electrical shorts.once the entired job was done it was time for the chrome housing and switches to go in.and guess what broke;the f*&%$#ng front brake switch plunger.at that point i was so frustraded i said the hell with it.found a cap from a pen , cut the top piece and crazy glued the bitch in place.it work great but my ego was shattered.
Come on guys it's not that bad. It's when your putting all the wires inside the bars & not cutting & butt splicing like they do at the dealer. Taking every wire out of the multi-wire Deutsch connectors and feeding them inside the bars is a PITS. Take your time, it's better then paying the dealer to do it, then fixing it yourself later.
