Default bike rental feedback

howdy all...sorry havent been around have had the flu...

well i rented a couple bikes last weekend and had some observations...(i did the rental to get an idea on fairing vs no-fairing)

wow, cant believe how the ultra rode vs the road king...like nite and day...couldnt beleive it...i picked up the road king classic first because they had it schedulexcd for the next morn, also thought would be easier since it had less weight up high...well i could not have been more wrong...i felt so awkward on that bike, never felt sure footed when i was at a stop...(maybe has to do with the seat and bars set up, very uncomfortable)....cruised it for 3.5 hrs all over the area, hiway, development rds, school parking lots, etc...then went home when i was almost frozen...next morn i was a bit nervous bout the ultra, being heavier and having a higher center of gravity...boy was i in for a surprise, jumped on an go, no probs, felt like i had one for yrs ...maybe due to the different seat and bar set up??...any body notice a differnce?? i would think the ride would be almost identical considering the same chassis??

i now would never recommend anyone buy an ex rental...boy did i beat on that thing...and they were totally stock (sucked), so i had to keep them from heating up, esp during slow manuevers

radio was very cool, but was a bit distracting at times...any advice?

havent ridden in a few yrs, what a great way to get back on...did lots of slow speed manuevering etc, practiced on lots of diff roads...i am no expert but really was able to get comfortable again...and wouldnt get a smaller bike to start out on...no need, unless u r a total new rider and totally unfamiliar with a motorcycle

now just need to find a bike...

thanks to all for all the great info/advice on this forum...enjoy the weekend
willie

When I went to buy my new HD last year I went to a dealer that had rentals just for that reason. I went in for a Heritage Classic and ended up on a EG. The sales guy told me I would know in a couple of miles which is the right bike. I should have bought the UC then, but I have one now.

I tried an 05 RK Standard and EGUC before I could make up my mind. I thought they were very close in ride except for alot less wind on the UC. Radio was distracting because I was trying to figure out how to work it. I'm sure it doesn't take long, just longer than I had. I did notice that on both trips I kept missing the daler prescribed turn around point. I would recomend a long test ride for anyone trying to decide between models. They all look pretty cool but it's the ride you want to be sure about.

the difference in the rake of the front end is what causes the different feel of the bikes IMHO.

The 8 degree diff in rake is what makes the EG more stable at low speed IMHO

could not agree more... I have a FLHTCI and wanted to get the feel of a RC - borrowed a friend stock RC and took the wife for a ride... I did not have to say a word before she figured out I was not comfortable - The seat and bars were ****... took the bike back before I had an accident - bars and seat can make all the difference...
