Last night riding along at 70 mph I hear a loud noise from the motor. It starts back firing and I pull over and shut it off. Get a ride home fron AAA. I pull the spark plug from the rear cylinder and it is broken and the tip is jambed up. I look at the air cleaner and it is missing a breather bolt. I have a K&N 3910 which has the breather bolt extensionsand the breather bolt isinside the filter. Some how it came off and got sucked in the motor. Not sure of what the damage will be.
I need a good dealer / mechanicin Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ Any recommendations?
Hard to call any of that lucky, but if you had any luck at all the damage will be confined to that cylinder. It'll take a cylinder, head, & piston if it didn't hole the piston. If the piston is holed, then you'll have to go into the bottom end to look for shrapnel.
Contact Larry Holmes at Hacienda Harley. He is the sales manager for the customs and touring bikes. Great guy, and he will get the help you need. Bought all my Harleys from him (4). Tell him Bob from Prescott recommended him.
I bet the adapter stuck the Intakevalve open, piston hit the valve, broke the head off & busted spark plug. You may get lucky and only have to dothe top end on one cylinder but I would also wonder what that rod looked like. Whoever works on it will know much more when they tear it down.
