I bought a used '06 road glide that had a stage 1 with harley screamin eagle slip-ons installed. Since I like my pipes pretty quite, I put stock slip on mufflers back on the bike. I talked to the service departments at three different dealers and have gotten different answers regarding the fuel remapping done with the stage 1 and the sceamin eagle slip-ons. The first dealer said I didn't need to do anything to the fuel map even though I switched back to the stock mufflers. The second dealer said there is a download that maps the stage 1 air cleaner to the stock mufflers and that I now have a map that goes to the screamin eagle slip on mufflers, so I need to give em $100 to re-map. The third dealer asked me how it runs and I said runs fine, maybe even a little better...the pipes seem to run a little cooler with less back pressure. Based on this conversation, the third dealer said the glide doesn't need a remap. So, what do you guys think, is there any reason to re-map again other than adding $100 to a stealer's bank account? Thanks...
I have an 06 Road King with 07 touring mufflers.Still pretty quiet but it is a different baffle setup than the 06.I would tell you if it runs fine dont mess with it. And second when the weather warms up and the bike is not running to hot, leave it go.
Yep, that's the way I'm leaning...I see no reason to remap. The second dealer said it should be done even after I told him the other dealer said I didn't need the remap. So, given the differing opinions from the dealers, I just through I see what the good folks here have to say...
I doubt there is a huge flow difference between the two slip-ons your talking about. If anything the stock ones might be slightly more restrictive which means your stage 1 download might make you slightly rich which isn't gonna hurt anything other than maybe a neglible difference in gas mileage.
If you look up the Stage I performance chart in the Accessories book, you'll see the notation that the setup is with stock exhaust systems. The air cleaner and download are designed to work with the stock exhaust.
I did the Stage I on my 02 Ultra with the HD download. At the same time, I had true duals and SE slipons installed. I didn't like the noise and also thought I had lost a bit of low end torque. I took off the true duals, left the SE slipons on, still too noisy. Went back to stock configuration and the Stage I performed the best that way. I would think you could save the money to remap if you're just doing Stage I with stock exhaust. Many other posters have said the true duals do cause a bit of torque loss. Some are willing to live with it, other's not.
Thanks for all the good info...looks like most folks agree no remap is needed. Just another stealer trying to get another 100 bucks. I believe I'll be switching to another dealer for maintenance. Cheers...
