Bought a used 06 Ultra and the previous owner had put on a SEfilter and did the map for this set up. I don't want to re-map or put on a fuel pack. It runs plenty fine for me but I'm just looking for a bettter sound. What are my choices for slip ons with all this in mind?
You should be OK with just about any of the slip-ons that are popular. I'm assuming that when the previous owner "did the map" that what he did was the Stage 1 Download. If that's the case, you will be fine with slip-ons and no additional fuel management work. I have the Stage 1 Download, SE Intake, and SE Street PerformanceTouring Mufflers. The bike runs really well. I have also had this setup with the Vance & Hines Oval Slip-Ons and had similar good results. The Oval Slip-Ons seemed to provide the best performance, but were quite loud for my tastes. The SE Street Performance Touring Mufflers have a deep rumble and provide more sound without waking the neighbors but not quite the performance gains that I experienced with the Oval Slip-Ons.
Here's the Oval Slip-Onson my '07 Road King:
And here's the SE Street Performance Touring Mufflers with Fishtail Endcaps:
Don't know if my experience on my used '07 applies to your '06, since the '07 bikes run very lean from the factory, but here is what I discovered:
I purchased my '07 RK Classic used from a dealer with 2400 miles on it. It has a Screamin' Eagle air cleaner on it with stock exhaust. The dealer was not the original selling dealer and they had no service record on the bike. Before I paid for it,I had the dealer put it on their computer and they told me the ECM was stock with no remap. I was concerned that the bike was running even leaner than it was from the factory. According to the accessory catalog, the Screamin' Eagle air cleaner requires an ECM remap.
Yesterday, I had the bike dynoed. The A/F ratio varied from 13.5 all the way to 16.0, depending on the RPM. Mostly the A/F was around 15.1-15.3.
I assume that with pipes and an A/C, you will definitely need some device to richen up the mixture.
Even with stock pipes, I plan on adding the PCIII to correct the lean situation.Thatshould get me a cooler running bike.
Drag pipes will work on the 08's just make sure that when you do put them on drill a hole in the end and run a bolt through the back to increase the backpressure if you dont the bike will just fall flat on its face unless your planning on putting a big bore kit in the bike i wouldnt reccomend putting drags on a 07 or 08
