Default just another extended warranty post

After some not too pleasant experience with my local stealers and checking out my '08 service manual I am seriously considering terminating my extended warranty contract.

Anyone done this, what's your experience been like?

Haven'tlooked at the "fine print" yet and I don't anticipate that it'll be easy but I really feel it's not worth it, specially when I've lost trust in the available local stealers svc depts.

Let me know what you guys think or have done in this situation.

TIA

You can't cancel it yourself. You have to have the dealer send a form in for you. If you financed the bike, they will send the refund to the bank. It's a hassle but it can be done.

Here's an HD Forumsthread about HD warranty from the past:
https://www.hdforums.com/m_1876295/tm.htm

Here's what I wrote then: and I am updateing itfor this thread
I bought it (the warranty)with my 2003 Ultra.
It expires in July of 2009.
I figure it's paid for itself a few times.
I have over 70,000 mile, still covered.
I have the 103 stroker upgrade, still covered.
Been to HD shops all across America, still covered.
I have my bike wired for a trailer and there's a Hitch Doctor trailer hitch on the rear.
First $100.00 reimbursement on towing.
On the road, top priority service, and
If you have to wait for a part, first $1,000.00 reimbursement on Motel/Hotel.
$50.00 deductable per visit

Here's a few things that I remember, all were just $50.00 deductable;

Bike wouldn't start. Tow, Volt Regulator, Starter relay, Battery and labor. $50.00
Fried stator, During Rolling thunder, DC. Stator replaced. $50.00
Speedo and lights were acting up. Replaced sensor and wire harness. $50.00
Shifter lever rod arm striped from trany rod, Twice!! Big job, $50.00 each time
Radio audio switch malfunction. Radio replaced and also hadthe green "N"light replaced and the passing lampswitch replaced at the same visit.$50.00
Oil pump, cam, cam tentioner shoes, sprockets & chains and all bearingsreplaced. $50.00

That's all that comes to mind right now, but that's enough for me to be glad I spent $1200.00
(I think) for the service warranty. I have as much confidence to ride my Ultra cross country now as I did when she only had 1000 miles on her.

I have never had the warranty validity contested at any Harley shop.

I think the warranty is a great idea especially for the Glides and Ultras with all the electronic equipment.

I bought the seven year warranty with my 2005 heritage. used it three times in 22,000 miles and the dealer didn't even charge me the deductible on two of those occasions.

When I traded up to the SG, I still had four years left on the warranty. Dealer cancelled the old warranty and I am supposed to be getting a check for about $700 back any day now.

I NEVER buy the extended warranty on any other product I buy, but it is a must on my Harley. The dealer was offended by that comment, but that's the way it is for me.

I just replace my bike every 2 years, that way I'm always covered. LOL

Seriously, I havn't had any problems with my last three H-D's, So I don't even consider it anymore it, will probably come back and bite me in the a** now that I responded to this post.

The other thing to consider is if you decide to sell the bike on your own,the warranty goes with the bike. This is a real advantage for the new buyer. I have a 2005 Ultra with the extended coverage and although I've only used it once (new oil pump), I know if I'm on the road and something happens the bikewill get fixed. This peace of mind is priceless.
