I am going on a family vacation and the only option to take the bike is to trailer. What is the best way to attach the straps to the roadglide? Any brand or style straps better than others?
I posted my tie down pics in this thread: Tie-down straps...

How to tie a bike down is very subjective. Personal preference, train of thought and trailer layout all affect such a thing. One thing you find most agree on is to NOT tie to the handlebars. Some will collapse the suspension, others will not. The old board under the bike works for some and not for others.

Will there be anything else around the bike? How close is the bike to the sides/walls? What does the trailer have for suspension? What for lashing points is the trailer equipped with?

A bike that will be very close to another bike or a wall will have to be pretty stable or it will move and make contact with what you don't want it to. A leaf spring trailer rides rougher than a torsion axle trailer. Witha torsion axle trailer the bike can be strapped a little soft as it won't be bouncing up the road. The angle of your straps makes a difference. Do you have to go to certain tie down points or are you at liberty to attach the ends anywhere (E-track on the floor)?

I get paid to haul bikes so I make dam sure nothing is going to move. A block of wood works for some bikes depending on their frame height. I generally use no less than 8 straps on a bike. Two around the triple tree, two around the rear of the frame/swing arm, two around the rear crash bars (If they have them), two around the front crash bars (if they have them). Than I strap to the walls from the triple trees, this eliminates side to side movement. If there is a bike along side of another I tryto tie them together. I squash the suspension as I don't like a moving bike. I have seen no ill effects in 17 years of doing it this way.

About the only thing that I can offer that others haven't already is DON'T COVER IT!! The wind will whip the cover around and wind up marring your paint. Better to let the road grime get on it and wash it when you get there!!!

That's funny. I can't tell you how many bikes I pass on trailers getting beat up by their own covering.

Straps over the seat make me laugh also.

High end bikes on an open trailer........

High end bikes on a $500 Home Depot trailer......

High end bikes behind a $1000 beater tow vehicle......

I have seen some mis-spent funds.

I use axle straps(loops on both ends)and wrap them around the crash bar on the inside of the fairing supports. Then i use tie downs from the end of the straps to the floor of the trailer.Spread the tie downs out and forward.
Its best to have a wheel chock or place the front tire againest the front of the trailer with something on both sidesof the tireto prevent the tire from turning side to side.
Secure the rear to prevent moving from side to side.
