Couple questions for everybody. Does the stock RKC seat have the slot for a rider backrest? If so, and I get the backrest for the stock seat, do you know if the same backrest will work on the Sundowner seat if I switch to it later?
I too am looking at changing seats. I'm riding the Corbin Dual Tour currently, with a rider back rest. The back rest is a pain in the back! I have the small oval back rest. I like the fact that the Corbin seats you lower and back, but I'm not sold on the firm padding. I put about 10,000 miles on a Mustang and liked everything except it places you up and forward. What I'm looking for is a comfortable seat that keeps you low and back, but still has some padding. Any thoughts?
The best motorcycle seat made is the Russell day long saddle. I had one on my BMW and could ride all day (hence the name day long). They are a custom made seat. You send in your stock seat pan with your measurements and photos of yourself on the bike, and for $600 to $1000, they send you back the world's greatest m/c seat. I think their web address is www.day-long.com. Having said that, I'm using the HD sundowner, because I was able to negotiate it into the price of the bike. Is it as good as the aforementioned Russell? No. Is it better than the stock seat? Absolutely! I rode 130 miles today with only a stop for lunch with no discomfort.
Regards,
Rick
I talked to these fine people today also. Major problem with them for me is that you have to send in your seat, takes about 2 weeks to do and they're booked til sometime in May. I agree, however, that it looks like a great seat and they were very nice.
BTW, Today I spoke on the phone with Corbin, Mustang, Bar and Russell. Mustang was the only place where I felt like I got an "order taker" who didn't really know anything and that they offered no customizing. Fust my $.02 worth.
I put a Mustang solo seat on my RK that has the backrest. I use the stock Pillion but for two up I would suggest looking at their full touring seats. Mustang makes a comfortable seat....
