I hope it is something as simple as that-not really full originally despite the reading on the gauge, but given the way it dropped as the few miles went up...hhmmm? I have e-mailed the owner of the dealer so will see what he has to say tomorrow. The few times I've had problems with my 4 Sportsters this dealer has always gone out of their way to take care of them...fast. Part of the reason why I keep buying bikes from them...nice shop(Gerencer's H-D, Elkhart, IN).
The RK was quite enjoyable to ride despite the 30F temps and horrid gas mileage...she does have "character". Now keeping her clean, that will be a challenge! The ST was easy: hose, bucket of soapy water and a sponge with and then dry her off...the 5000 nooks and crannies on the RK..wow! Still, the RK does have visual presence..aka "eye candy" up the waaazoo. Also she sounds good, unlike the about-to-boil-over teakettle sound of the ST.
If the gas mileage issue can be resolved so she becomes useful for the l-o-n-g range riding I have planned with her and new bars fix my reach problem, well then this big bike will be a very enjoyable "friend" for years to come. She looks gr8, but for @$19K I expect her to function well, too! DFO
I am willing to bet when he fills the tank, he will get no less that 175 miles before he will even consider looking for a gas station.
My Ultra lives at 75-80 mph and I see 170ish before I need gas.
If my RK does get @180 on a tank that will be acceptable, but 123??! No good. Sure hope she starts beinn a bit frugal, because she does seem to be a enjoyable bike to ride compared to my snooozurr ST and "turkey baster" FJR-HOT from way to much engine heat. Kicked off far more BTUs than my 162 rwhp ZX12R did! Funny tho...I traded the ZX for my third Sporty a '02 1200 std which was replaced by my beloved '04 1200R. Now for the RK to get as "good" as my 1200R. DFO
I just had to gas up my RK for the first time today, she took 4.5 gallons at 175 miles and that is about 38.8 miles per gallon, for the first 50 miles it was all in town driveing, then it has been combo of city and highway. This has a stage one kit oand some screaming eagle pipes on it, this thing is like driving my lazy boy down the road, never thought I would like having a windshield on my ride.
