Default touring bike???

I had to fill up my new RK today: the low fuel light came on at 116 miles, and 7 miles later when I got to a gas station she gobbled up 4.7 gallons of premium. Let's see that makes a blazing 26.1 mpg on a "Touring Bike"...my Sportster, which I run at @ 90-95 on back roads, gets lo-mid 40s. This is not exactly conducive to long range touring which is why I bought this heavy wt. "touring" bike.

Anybody else getting miserable mileage like this? BTW the bike had Stage I work performed by the dealer before delivery and she does seem to run OK, but...26.1, even with a new engine and cold (@32-33F today) weather...owch! DFO

I have a 2005 Electra Glide Classic FI with the Stage 1. I seem to be getting about 45. Only have 1,000 miles on it, as the weather has been bad. I would think that you have something wrong if you are only getting 26. I have a friend with a 100 inch Evo, with a side car, and he gets better than that by quite a bit.

My wife has a 2001 Heritage that is carburated, with a Stage 1, and it also gets about 45.

Regards,

Bill

I have a 2004 Ultra Classic and when it was new, I would get about 174 miles before the light came on. I have installed the Vance and Hines Oval Slip-Ons, Stage I Screaming Eagle Breather kit and a power commander and now it gets about 30 miles less per tank for the add ons. I don't know what work you had done on your motor, but keep in mind that the more performance add ons you install, the less mileage you are going to get. Horsepower is not free...it comes with a price.

I hope that helps.

it does seem like an extreme departure from the normal mileage range. Are you positive your tank was full last time and the miles tracked properly?

The engine is stock, only mod being the Stage I air filter, "recalibrated" EFI(...hmm???) and screechinn beagle "mufflers". Given that my carbed 1200R also has Stage I and is ridden with, uh..far more "enthusiasm" than I plan on for the RK 26.1 seems excessively low. I will give her a couple more tanks and see if it improves...if not, the dealer can check out and fix the problem, hopefully. A Touring Bike with a 110 mile range is unacceptable, especially given how much this big hunk of hardlee "technology" cost, including my ST1300 with a range of @ 230 miles between fill ups. DFO

Only possible variation would be if the bike was refilled at the 11 mile mark that was showing when I got her a week ago...if so: then the bike got 23.8.............. Either way it is not an impressive start to owning a BT. Never had any complaints with any of my 4 Sportsters: all got/get very good mileage especially given the use I give them on backroads year round.

One thing for sure no more gas was going into that tank...it was full, and according to the gas gauge it was full when I got the bike last Saturday. DFO[:'(]

On my RK I have been getting 40 -45 miles per gallon, doing mostly highway cruising. I had the Stage 1 kit with touring mufflers. Now I had the Stage 2 kit installed (95 kit) but have not been driving too much due to the cold northeast weather. I hope to get similar mileage, but will see how I handle all those extra ponies.

I'm willing to bet that the first tank of gas was not plum full.
Run that sucker over on the fill up and then do the same when you refill.

something is not right, for sure. i have an 04 rkc with stage one breather, rinehart true dual eaxhaust and power commander IIIusb, and i get much much better mileage than that.

it also sounds like you dont like the bike very much.
...especially given how much this big hunk of hardlee "technology" cost,
i cant be sure yet, but i smell a troll.......

I would lean more toward the accuratcy of the gas pump not being correct. There was one time when I put 5.2 gallons in my 5 gallon tank. I would give it a couple tanks and see where it ends up.
