I try to watch the traffic ahead of me. If it is going sluggish I bail down an off ramp. I've bailed down residential streets just to keep moving.

I saw an earlier thread that stated there were more problems with the bikes with fans than compared to bikes without.... seems it added to the problem- - it was in a "Sporty thread" about overheating in Parade duty or something like that a couple weeks back...

yeah I'm just lazy and hoping someone else will do the work for me.

No, seriously....

As usual, Bill (or Terry) has already posted wisely on the subject: how to keep your air-cooled bike running cool

I asked the dealer, and they told me that when it slows the idle and lopes, its 'finding its sweet spot'. How's that for a new spin on a crap line?

LMAO, sometimes Iam amazed of the crap I hear at my dealer. Especially the time one of the partskids said he didn't like what I wanted to buy

It is normal for the pressure to go near zero when hot. If it starts to idle rough it has gone into the limp mode to keep from overheating firing only every other time. Eventually if you dont get some air cirulation it will shut down to keep from damaging the engine. I have found that Amsoil holds better pressure than any other oil i have used and tends to cause the bike to run cooler Not really a lot to worry about. Try to avoid these conditions if possible.
As a BIG beliver in Amsoil products in my trucks, what grade do you use in your bike?

I have an 05 Ultra and am using the HD Fan. Fan seems to help, although it kicks on a bit later than I think it should. I'm thinking of getting a theromstat about 20 degrees cooler - I think the one they use is rated for 240 degrees. Also, checked the pipes and have not noted any difference in the pipe colors (as if one clyinder is running hoter).

anyone have an opinion on oil coolers?

I know they need air flow to make them efficient, but it's a choice of richening the mixtures, runningthe fan, oil cooler, or do nothing.

What has worked for you?

That right there says a lot.

If its not coming on as often as you thought it should, maybe you didn't really need it. Maybe we just think out bikes are getting too damn hot, but really they are designed for this. Since they designed the fan to keep the bike cool enough, I'm guessing that 240 is cool enough.
