I'm new to this forum, new to HD's after years of owning triumphs, guzzi's and yes, hondas. I purchased a used '07 RK Custom last fall from a dealer w/ 6k miles on the clock.
My question is, I wanted the 96" motor and fuel injection so i picked up a pearl white one, (the only one i could find) and now i'm kind of waffling. Don't get me wrong, its great color, just wondering what it costs to get replacement tins already painted from a dealer in a diff color or have the stock ones painted. Anybody done this that might have any advice?
....If I'm not mistaken...a painted set,(nothing limited, or custom), just a plain color, will probably run you around ....$12-$1500.00 from the dealer,(gas tank, and 2 fenders), because you are buying the sheetmetal too, another approach is to go to some "swap meets", and look for some painters who do exchange stuff...you might find a kick-*** paint set for the same money as plain, but just have to do a swap with your metal....that's what I'd do...no down time, and no horror shows having a set painted just on someones, "vision".....
The cost from the dealer is higher than giraffe tail even with a 20% discount. If you are not rolling in the dough, plan to have them custom painted at a ralley. BTW, there are lots of add -ons decals painted designs etc that are over sprayed with clearthat may enhance the bike so you are satisfied.
There have been several different complete sets on ebay, so you may be able to pick up a set in a better color for you there. Congrats on joining the Harley bunch.
yeah...thats what i figured..I did get a decent price on the RK, and its paid for, so spending $1200 to get it dialed just the way i want it can be rationalized. The white pearl gets lots of compliments, lots of attention (not used to it frankly) and honestly, my wife loves it. I'll ride it through this summer then if i still feel like changing it have it sprayed in a solid dark metallic. There's not a whole lot of swap meets around here, at least that i've heard of, but that seems like a good idea as well. Thanks for the advice.
Harley will paint your tins for you. For a solid color it is less than $1K shipped. Check with your dealer. The more intricate you want the paint the more expensive it becomes.
