Hi people: I'm new here but not to riding. Im thinking about trading my 2002 fatboy in for an 08 RKC. This will be my first touring bike. My question is. Because of the rubber mounted engine on the RK there is a visible vibration in the handle bars at idle. Do you notice this when riding?
First off, let me say welcome to the forum nutflush! I have an '07 RK Classic and yes it did shake a bit at idle, but never noticed it once I took off. I have done several mods (SERT, Stage I kit, Rinehart T-D's, IDS and dyno). Since I had all that done at once I'm not sure which one helped with the vibration, but definately took most of that away. Still get a little, but nothing like it was out of the box! Best bike I have ever owned and would highly recommend them to you!
Ride safe!!
nutflush607 Welcome to the forum..I have an 06 and can honestly say that it has never been an issue except for checking your mirrors while ideling at a light. Not to point where you cant see but you will notice the mirror shake, till you crack the throttle just a touch.. Captain Rumbelly Love that nurse..do you think she would shake at Idle?
My '07 Road King would definitely shake at idle (loved it!), but once underway got smooth as glass. The mirrors were crystal clear at highway speeds and not vibration at the handlebar at all.
The shake is a built in safety facture. Harley Davidson designed it that way so when you come to an idle it will shake so you don't fall asleep. Like others said, when you take off, it's smooth as glass.
Your fat boy has more vibration when up to speed than a road king. Touring models because of the rubber mounts are designed to shake at idle and smooth out at speed. Soft tails have counter balenced motors, Smooth at idle but have alittle vibe when up to speed.
For all who answered, thanks for your input. It helps making my decision easier. I'm going to make the deal for a pewter pearl RK classic. Im pretty psyched. Cant pick it up till late march they tell me.
nutflesh607, congrats on the scoot. I am trading my 06 Deuce in for a black 2008 RKC too. Hate to give up my Deuce, but my wife and daughter keep asking why I don't take them riding. With the RKC, I will feel much better taking them for rides. Man, I am stoked on this too! Can't wait for Saturday! WooHoo!
I had an 06 Dyna Wide Glide with a rubber mounted engine. Smooth as glass when up to speed.
When I bought my 08 Road King Classic I noticed the bike had even more "vibe" at idle, but again is smooth at speed. The touring bikes have a different rubber mount than the dynas-hence the difference I noted. It's nomal and its part of what makes a Harley what it is!
