I do not have a Zumo but I do have other Garmins ( for years now)which have stopped working all of a sudden. This has happened at least once for each. There is a strange sequence of button pressing to reboot them that I discoveredon the Garmin web site. Don't know if that aplies to Zumos or not.
Unfortunately, based on these responses two of nine units were defective in the first few weeks. Not very good results for a $700 unit. What other company makes a Nav system for bikers? Again, I am not trying to flame Zumos. I did not hear about this issue until yesterday but based on the 22 pages of posts it has been a serious issue for many people. I'm trying to determine the scale of the issue, is it 1% or 10% of units sold. Thanks again.
Tom Tom makes a similar unit called the "Rider" intended for motorcycle use. I think you'll find it lacks a little in features & has a slightly less complete map base, but it's still a decent unit.
Garmin also makes several other units that are suitable for motorcycles. Of course judging any unit by the number of problems reported on an internet site is only looking at one side of the problem unless you also total the number of satisfied customers too.
I had a thin red line appear across my screen intermittently after about 3 months in service. Garmin gave me an RMA number with no questions asked and in about a week they sent a brand new one with the favorites and waypoints from the old one pre-loaded. Can't gripe about that.
My opinion is that even if there are some failures, as long as it isn't a high rate, customer service is the key. A GPS is something most people could do without for a short period of time, and given the remote possibility of a failure the assurance it'll be taken care of forthrightly would be important to me.
With millions of these things in the consumers hands and basically one web site devoted to it's operation worldwide, 22 web pages probable isn't too bad considering many post are duplicates and responses.
I've had one over a year, use it on the bike and in the car. Lots of use, trip on the bike thru Canada last year. Wouldn't be without it. Made my own mounting brakets, shown on my 03 Road Glide.
