A 4GB card will hold nearly 1,000 song. The card also can be used to hold routes, photos and other files. I have a 2GB with around 475 songs and other stuff. I've heard some say they have an 8 GB card and it works just fine. Keep in mind that the Zumo has a 1,000 song limit so a larger card could be a waste of money.
My view on the modulator is this. You will reach no farther to touch the screen or a soft key then you will to manipulate the handlebar switches and you're going to be touching the screen to perform function that the modulator doesn't handle, so why **** the money away on a gadget that isn't needed.I've been using my Zumo for over a year nowand can't figure out how using a modulator would make the operation any easier than it already is.
TBone, Your dealer is F@#ked up. That's what the AUX jack is for. Or maybe I just think I've been imagining I'm hearing music all this time.
what size card do you use i only get 500ish on my 4 gig

I have a 2 GB card. I just checket, I have 473 songs with 223 MB free space. What program are you converting the music to MP3 format with? I use I-Tunes. Make sure you have the output format set to MP3. Check the Zumoforums MP3 threadfor info as to what you may be doing differently.
Most mp3's are about 1mb per minute of music. If your files are significantly larger they may have an unusually high bit rate (128 is the norm). If you create your own mp3s from CDs that setting that is adjustable.

How many songs you can get on any storage device be it CD, SD card or hard drive. Is dependent on how large each file is. If you encode at 320 mbps (cd quality) you won't get as many as if they are encoded at 192 mbps or lower. Listening to songs on our stereos, even outrageous ones like Glidemans. You won't be able to tell the difference in quality between a high bitrate encoding and a lower one. Most mp3 burner software will allow you to create copies of your music at whatever bitrate you choose. So if you want more songs convert to a lower bitrate.
I have the zumo hooked up to the AUX port on the stereo and it works great! I have about 1000 songs on a 6GB card at 160 bit rate. The one thing I did to improve the performance of the MP3's is to normalize the volume levels. I found that while on a bike between the lower volume songs and higher volume songs I was fussing with the volume alot. I found a free volume normalizing program and its all gravy now!
I think the audio output of the Zumo is not enough to drive the aux input on my HK radio on my SG. The Fm,AM,WB,and the CD players, audiois louder out of the speaker than the Zumo.Thats with the volume on the 550 wide open.So I'm thinking of a FM modulator with a adjustable audio gain to help out with this.Anyone else noticed this?

The Zumo has 2 volume controls, the master one (hard button on unit) and the "soft" one in the settings. They both have to be maxed out to get a good volume. I still move the volume on the bike up a couple of notches anyway, but it's no big deal.
The FM modulator is an addon to the Zumo 550. Just want to clarify that it doesn't come with the unit.
