I bought a front Harley display standand for a simple part it hasbeen a PITA.
The instructions stated there was a grease zert on the tube but there isn't. I will explain that latter. Iinstalled it last weekend and the first thing I noticed was how rough it foldeddown and after a few times the internal spring un-coiled. After removing it, I then punched the roll pins out and after anotherhour I figured out the rough operation was due to the internal spring pinsbeing pressed-in too far and were grinding on the tube, which I corrected. After another hour trying to see the internal spring (through a small hole) Ire-wound the spring and pressed the stop pins back in. I then re-installed the stand on the bike. Now it works fine but I scratched the chrome some in doing all this. I was then tossing the box and inside I found the broken grease zert which is a real small press in type. I tried to contact Chicago HD but after 3 daysthey are still non responsive. I need to either tap the hole and install a regular fitting or leave it out and forget it.
I just recalled something. I'm doing some paint work on my BMW. I orderednew tank emblems from Chicago BMW, which is owned/operated by the personas Chicago HD.One of theemblems wasdamaged. It looked someone shot it with a BB gun. Makes me wonder if they have some gorillas working in the parts/shipping department.
I usually go overboard trying to not send parts back as it usually costs me more money and it not the dealers fault HD has a quality problem. I am still waiting on Chicago HD to e-mail me.
