Has anybody put the Wild1's 575 handlebars on their SG '08, and ran the wires inside the handlebars? The guys at my Harley dealership say they won't fit due to the throttle-by-wire and ABS.
But - they also told me that Harley is coming out with new handlebars later this year for the '08's and that I should wait (rather than buy after-market parts).
I just hadWild1 575's put on my 07 bike last week by a tech who does a lot of these during the week. He saidto me half way through that the 08's are much harder to thread the wiring through, but I can tell you he has already done them and that was with HD bars which are smaller ID. Chubby's have these big open holes andin the centre so you can pull lots of wire through and i'd tell you emphatically that yes, you cando an08. Call Wild1 as suggested above by SoCal, I am sure they will tell you that yes, the wires will fit with their larger inside diameter.
Here is a preliminary shot of my 07 being put back together. Lots of room left asI looked after the wires were pulled through and capacity was about 50%-60%. That leaves room for a few pairs. Max use is about 75% of ID when pulling around corners and when in doubt just add some wire lube and 80% will pull through no problem.Only issue with the 08 bikes is that the stealership is quoting 4 to 5 hours just for the cable pulling so expect to get screwed unless you're doing it yourself. The 575 bars make for about 2 hours of wiring, and 2 hours to R&R but the dealer quotes as if they are pulling other bars that are harder to do, so be wise to that. A real good tech will do the whole jon in 3 hours without interuption when doing Wild 1'sThis was from the horses mouth.
I have wild1 575's on my 08SG and had no problems everything fit However if your looking for more height don't get them I'm going with some 12" apes next friday .
The problem from what I hear is the ABS not the FlyByWire as Harley gives you enough slack to stretch the wire.
I hear you need a special tool toBleed the brake line on the ABS Bikes.
Find a good Dealer sounds like the bonehead at the stealer doesn't know to much
I've researched this to death
Check out Baggernation.com they've done some 08's already and had no problems.
