Default Diamond Back cables tight when installed...

I'm in the process of installing HD Diamond Back cables on my 2007 Streetglide. The process is a bit more involved then I thought it would be. Especially for the Clutch cable. (I've not started on the others, so I'm hope it's down hill from here)

My question is, Is the clutch cable suppose to be significantly "tighter" then the stock cable?

When I first hooked everything up, it was so tight it wouldn't move through the fighting that connects to the cover at all. After a while of playing with it, I got it to move, but it's still pretty tight. Perhaps this is how they get people to upgrade to the hydraulic clutch?

Did the cable move freely before you installed it?

Honestly, I did't check. So I don't know... It's the first time I've installed them so I didn't know to check for that.

One thing to note... I'm comparing them to a stock set of cables that have 5K miles on them.

Mine was pretty tight also. A bit of a challenge routing it underneath the bike.

Just to clarify, the "tight" I'm talking about is how it operates now that it's installed on the bike. I'm going to have one heck of a strong grip on my left hand!

Try lubing it. If it wasnt tight before and the only thing you did was change the cable lube it if that doesnt work check to make sure the install is correct!

How was the clutch pull before the new cable install, easy or hard?I'm sure you can a difference between the two.
I would back off the clutch cable adjuster and remove the cableat the lever. At this point you should be able to check the cable for free movement in the housing by holding the cable housingand moving the cablein and out.
If there is no free movement then the cablehousing could be bound up due to routing. If there is free movement then there may be an issue at the tranny housing.Remove the housing and check the ball and ramp for proper install.
I think you will also need to remove the derby cover and back off the clutch rod before removing the tranny cover and readjust after the tranny cover is installed.
