Been trying to decide which cams to put in a 04RG TC88 with 2K miles. At the moment all thats been done is FuelMoto's package. My local shop(Thunder Alley)near FTW says 570 S&S. I suggested 510, but they think I'd be better offwith the 570.
For me, this is more about switching to gear drive. It seems like a lot of people like HQ's stuff. Would their cam be a better choice?
I'm not after high rpm hp. Thanks for any suggestions.
The HQ-0034 is one of the best bolt-in cams availabe.
The S&S570 would be horrible choice to bolt into a stock'ish 88. The 510 is better than the 570, but it comes on later (3000+) than what is ideal for a Bagger.
For a stock 88" stage 1 motor............the Andrews 21, Andrews 26, HQ-0034, S&S 510, or Woods TW-6 are all great choices.
But if you are planning on doing upgrades later like a big bore kit or headwork..........the list narrows down a bit more to cams that will still like that.........HQ-0034 or Woods TW-6.
Look at what you want to accomplish now and what you may do in the future to the motor.....or do it all at once and save in the long-run.
I have the HQ-0034's (chain) in my otherwise bone stock EFI '04 EG w/ Rinehart TD's and SE a/c--very, very happy with them--happy enough in fact to pass on a 95 100/100 build and plan on a 113 because the performance difference with the 95 wouldn't be all that great IMO. I'm not a fan of dyno charts as anything more than a rough comparator between products given the difference from dyno to dyno, quality of tune, rideability of the tune, etc., but you can expect about 90 ft. lbs of torque with the 34's.
Can't speak to the other popular choices out there (Woods TW-6, S&S 510, etc.) since I haven't used them, but anything with .570 lift would probably needdifferent valve springs at a minimum in a stock 88.
PhilM or someone, can you point me in the direction of HQ's website. I have Googled and done a search here and can't find it.
Also, does anyone have a good recomendation on a shop in DFW area to install? I wanted to use Thunder Alley but I'll have to see if they can get HQ cams.
I'm personally happy with the Andrews 37G cams with gear drive for my 2005 RG. I now have great torque when I need it and still getting over 40mpg! The 37G is good for both 95 and 103 hop up kits.
I looked on the HQ website and found the cams I wanted 0034 gear drive. Do they come with the gears and if not where do I order them from. I looked on the site and could not find them listed on their own and the write up didn't mention if they came with the cams or not. Little help please.
