Wait till you accidently drag a boot over the bag top when getting off the bike. The clear coat from the factory is very soft and thin.I had a bike painted at the local paint shop and the clear coat was likeglasscompared to the Harley's like saran wrap. Why do you think the profinish guy is selling clear tape to put over the baglids.Stock finish sucks.Looks great but way too fragile.
I called my salesman Duane at Sun Harley and he told me to swing by. The guy in detail ran a buffer on it and took 99% of it out. Free. Whew! They make a clearbra for the top of them. They are $150 installed for both tops. They said that will help huge. Also they said it is $150 if I ever wanted the top painted. Not to bad really. All is good now and I have a scratch free shiney new SG again!
all iseas probaly work great.i have never had new paint job that didnt get a scratch some where.I have learne to live with it and say hell its a ridden bike,as long as its not big scuff or dented Id give it few months for the new to wear off and fix anyothers that happen inm mean time.
That is how I felt when I had my Jeep. I like to keep my Harley's spotless! I make a special time at least once a week to baby my baby. I bath it, and read it a story before we go to bed.
...my advice would be to immediately start your daughter on a "Home-Schooling" program...that will eliminate any chance of that happening again....or.....just join the rest of us who have scratches on our bikes!....
Don't feel bad dude...had mine about 3 weeks and was backing my boat into the garage -and I even KNEW the bike was back there, but thought I had enough room. I was wrong! Damn close to tipping it over!!!
I was VERY lucky that all I had to do was replace the front f-ing fender [:@]
I dont park my bike back there anymore!
Yo Man ,When I picked up my first bagger 2 years ago the first thing I did was put the leather covers on the lids.If you plan on really using your bikeday to day it is next to impossible to keep those tops new ,boot marks , helmet marks, swirls , you name it. If you dont mind the look of em throw them on ,relax, and enjoy.
I would be spending more money on touch up than on upgrades if i worried about every little scratch. Sucks to have it happen but it will probably just happen again don't you think?
