...and I'm pissed that I'll probably have to rely on the dealer. So the other night I come out of the casino 50 bucks down, prepared for a long, cold run home in the dark. Leaving the parking lot, I realize the reddish illumination lampin the Harmon Kardon radiohas goneblack. No light at all. Has anyone had this experience ? The 1st dealer I called said he wasn't sure if the lamp would be covered on the 2 year warranty of my '07. He said, bring it in and drop it off... That sucks ! He said likely they'd have to remove the radio, (of course that entails tearing down the fairing)...and sending it somewhere... I hate the thought of my bike sitting somewhere other than my garage. Does anyone know if the lamp is accessible for replacement or is it some kind of LED that only a "radio head" with a souldering gun can fix ??

It is covered.
The radio on mine did the same thing. The dealer removed it and replaced with a refurb unit under warranty.I had to bring the bike for them to confirm the problem, then bring it back two weeks later for the install. They had to order the radio.
The radio started to just go out. Shut down for no reason. I went to the dealer and they said they would pull out the unit, send it out and then put it back in when it got back. Or sell me a core for $300 so I'd have a radio and my bike quicker.
My bike would have to sit in the shop for a few weeks (June into July).
If I waited until after the summer to have it taken care of my bike would have been out of warranty and it would still cost me a min of $300 for the core + labor charges.
I could have argued that but even then I'd be with out tunes for the summer.
So back to what I did.
I pulled the stock radio out. Bought an Awesome Sony head unit for 1/2 the price and then sold the stock unit as is. That paid for the Sony head unit, biketronix kit, Pyle amp, hog tunes speakers, Polk speakers and splash guard. All in all I'm a lot happier.
You need a new dealer !
ok so the radio went south on you no sweet off the dealers back in fact he makes out by do right by you.
I have never heard such a thing as offering to sell you a core while yours is getting fixed.
I seen a dealer stick one in till a friends got back.
And there is no reason in the world you could not ride your bike till repaired one was returned.
The salesman at my deal did not think my faring was aligned right I saw no proplem with it Shop was busy he gave me a bike to ride till the next day.
ride that great bike to a new dealership and never go back.
14,000 on my new 07 RoadGlide now onlly problem is fuel light comes on early they willtake care of that next service. I'm sure they will not try to sell me a new fuel tank till it's fixed

Makes sense ... gives me something to work with, thanks
FIND A NEW DEALER. It is covered, Ive replaced quite a few of them including my own. They DO NOT need to keep your bike, They just need to do a few checks and resets to make sure its not just the dimmer feature that can be turned all the way off. Once they verify that it is a "blank Radio display" they order a new one, call you when its in and then replace it. Any dealer that wants to keep your bike for a known problem like the blank display needs to loose your business!
I am considering the new Sony Mex-1 w/biketronics adapter for the hand controls.. (Blue LED) around 400 bucks
Or maybe if they take it to someone to replace the LED, you could get them to put in a blue one.. better at nite.. Don't understand why harley put a red one in.. Not a boat..!!
I agree, fight them. My 08 RG would not eject a CD. Called the dealer, they ordered a new head unit (new, not referb).5 days later they call, the new head unit is in, bring your bike buy. So I ride over there and they swap out the head unit. Then the tech prys open my old unit ( a couple of screwdrivers) and hands me my CD.
Either I have a really good dealer or you have a really bad one. Get a different dealer.
