My observations have been that many people who buy Street Glides are looking to be "cool" or getting what all the cool kids have. Others just like the styling, which is pretty nice.

I bought the bike I have because I liked the model and it fit my budget for the payments. I have done a number of changes but do not want a Street Glide transformation. I like many of the things that came on my bike that the Street Glide does not have. I wanted classic styling and try to keep it as close to that as possible. Its the last bike I plan to buy.

As far as the radio goes owned an E Glide classic used the radio twice both times while I was polishing it in the driveway - I think the radio is an extreme WASTE of $$$. From what I read here it skips and works like a Barbie doll carry on. If I want tunes I will reto-fit some speakers and an MP3 player Harley can kiss my fat A$$...!!!

Lets be honest here folks Harley Davidson is a Company that was pulled from the brink of extinction by some SLICK A$$ advertising and playing on peoples desire to keep up with the Jone'es - really nothing more.
Why don't you tell us how you really feel?

okay - I see this thread is over 5 years old. Oops - hate it when that happens.

If you try to make EGC look alike any thing else it is, it will cost you lot more then you can just buy that bike for.

There are some things that people don't want on their bikes, Ie passing lamps, bars around the bags etc. Too each their own. I like the Eglide classic, cushier ride due to slightly longer shocks and it has options that I can leave on or remove. I like the extra lighting of the spot lights at night. I also like the looks of the spots since it has more of a classic style look to it. I have a tourpack that I can take off or put on depending on my trip.

The rails around my bags camo the scuffs or flaws in the sides of the bags that come with use. They also add some protection if the stand decides to sink in the ground and leave the bike laying on its side.

So it all depends on what you want. I like my options.

I thought the EG Standard was discontinued. I haven't seen one in a showroom in two years.

Just my $.02
The faring is the same size on the SG as it is on the EG.

I can't believe I just read 10 pages of this, but if I got the jest of the thread right I don't understand why someone would buy one style of bike just to set out to convert it to another, but different strokes, as for dealer pricing, yeah it's high and if people don't want to pay the price then look aftermarket or ebay.
As for Cobra, don't know why people are taking shots at him, though if I couldn't stand a particular brand or dealer I would look some where else. my .02
