I went down the EG standard road (note my forum name). Save money, do stuff myself, blah, blah, blah. I added a good radio, speakers, the missing gauges, chrome gauge rings, some chrome and in the end I still had a standard.

The difference in MSRP was $2000.00....it cost me more than that when I traded the 09 standard for the 09 street glide...

The standard is a fine bike, but my rationale for buying it was to save a few bucks...in the end I did what I should have first done...buy the scooter I really wanted.

I've done this. My 05 FLHT, bought used with 4700 miles cost me $13,000. Came with Kenwood radio, smokes the Harley one, tweeters, I have a street glide seat, sundowner seat. and the original seat. 4 different windsheilds and a ultra tour pack I can quick disconnect. More chrome and black powdercoated parts than I care to mention. Driver's backrest. Black powdercoated wheels with polished rotors. Nothing is left untouched. Painted inner fairing, new paint on tank etc. etc. etc. Have well under 17'000 in the bike and have a street glide when I want it, or a classic when I want it. With the chrome pack on the motor, the grey looks great. It is the color engine they put on the screamin eagles you know. The street glide's an easy choice if you wanna leave it stock, but if you want a good platform for a creative build, the standard's the way to go.

You can get a great short windshield for $40 new from Cee Bailey. Personally, Ive never understood the logic for having a radio on a bike but if you have to have that blaring Night Ranger or whatever at every stoplight, go ahead. One last thing, my FLHT doesnt say "standard" on it anywhere, its just a plain Electra Glide without all the options, I've always hated that "standard" ****.

I took my 09 FLHTP and for less than 2000 bucks turned it into a SG. The bike cost me 16K and came with the 103ci motor. I changed the turn signals added a 30 dollar 7 inch windshield, PC-V, Fuel moto air, V&H basic slipons, and a Biketronics radio and small Mustang Pillion. The only thing I have left to do is remove the tour pack platform and relocate the license plate and air cylinder for the air seat. For less than 18.5K I have a 103ci SG with a little extra chrome. And it rocks!!!!

Sometimes the aftermarket quality is not as good as HD and you wind up buying things twice (don't ask me how I know) my radios on 07 SG, 08 RG and now 09 RG has never given me any problems--I have to respectly disagree with the keeping up with Jones--I think it would be easier to get a Classic or Ultra and SG it vs a Standard.

That's why I would strickly buy aftermarket "F- Harley" and doing that it would be much cheaper... As far as the radio goes owned an E Glide classic used the radio twice both times while I was polishing it in the driveway - I think the radio is an extreme WASTE of $$$. From what I read here it skips and works like a Barbie doll carry on. If I want tunes I will reto-fit some speakers and an MP3 player Harley can kiss my fat A$$...!!!

Lets be honest here folks Harley Davidson is a Company that was pulled from the brink of extinction by some SLICK A$$ advertising and playing on peoples desire to keep up with the Jone'es - really nothing more.

I have a SG and over the past two years it has been slowly evolving into a EG. The changes have been at bigger seat, a taller windshield, lower fairings, passing lights and a few other goodies. I think if I started with an EG I would have ended up with just about the same looking bike.
