Wow, miss one day on here and it goes all to hell. I have found bits and pieces from everyone on here to agree/disagree with. ...........Just throwing out the idea, that if you don't like to deal with the HD store, and don't like their prices, the used bikes and other parts companies are a good way to go, and for a lot less money. .......... Why not let some other guy pay that crap and then buy his bike after he has spent money on extras, and then realizes, he don't have time to ride, or don't like to ride, whatever the case may be.
Exactly right. Noone forces anyone to walk into, or back into, a dealers building. Its your own choice to open that door. We all have our own reasons for buying from, or not buying from, a dealer. So be it.
If you're prepared to use the KY gel, then maybe there's some other underlying issue. There's a local dealer that I refuse to step foot in. A second dealer is much better and the one I bought my bikes from is a smaller family run dealer that after 8 years still greets me by name and will sit and shoot the breeze with me. Where do you think I go?
Lifes too short to be bitter or cynical. Suck it up, leave the KY at home and go find a source that you can deal with.
When I walk into a Harley dealer (just to make things easy and quick) I make sure I have plenty of KY hot lube, I put my cash and credit cards into a pouch located on a six inch chain and toss it over my shoulder so it sits squarley in the middle of my back.
At the front door I pull my pants down around my ankles and with a scrubbable red magic marker I have my wife paint a big red target on my big fat ***.
I then lube up all the right spots and slowly back into the dealership with my hands squarley located on my ankles yelling as loud as I can "COME AND GET IT - Oh so marvelous Harley Gods" YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii - Ouch...!!!!
LOL -
Now I know why so many dealers are like ghost towns-customers are afraid you'll be there buying something, and they didn't want to watch that kind of show
To be fair to the MoCo, a lot of their accessories aren't any more expensive than the metric bike's, often they are less. I've owned 2 Harleys and 8 Hondas and been buying stuff for a while. When someone develops a "widget" for a popular Harley bike, they know ahead of time they will be able to easily sell 10,20,30 times more units than if they do a widget for a Kawasaki. The demographics are different, the number of bikes available that the widget will fit is much greater, and the number of aftermarket sellers for Harley-specific widgets is greater than any other bike. Price competition is higher also, as folks fight for a slice of the pie. Take a look at comparable things like luggage racks, engine guards, etc and the H-D ones are often less expensive and seldom lesser in quality.
He is probably getting screwed because he walks into dealership with same rediculous attitude he has displayed here. One more time go buy a Yamaha, your attitude not needed here!!
Huh! I must be pretty lucky. I enjoy going to the 2 dealerships closest to me. They are very friendly, helpful and will spend time talking to you even if your not buying. HD parts can be pricey but there are a lot of things in life I think are pricey. It's not unique to Harley.
See, this is why I just popped for the SG - no misunderstandings. I liked the SG look so I bought it.
Now I don't have to explain that - "it's not really a SG, I just bought the cheaper bike and took some stuff off and added some other stuff and now it almost an SG except that I have to explain it constantly to everyone who asks about it." Sparing me from these conversations has got to be worth something, right?
I bought 2008 street glide 8500 miles salvage.
put it back together and painted it, three stage crimson red sunglo......had it inspected, all set rebuilt title.
brought up to harley dealer for new rear tire.......they said needed wheel bearings.......great for me.....still under warranty until april of 2010......free!!!!
total cost with paint and parts...12grand.......
