Default RE: BACK-OFF Module

I have a single brakelight on my EG Classic, so I bought the HD converter (91699-99A very first accessory and well worth the $$) to make my turn signals function as brakelights and have added saddlebag (58606-99DH) and tourpak (53149-99DH) spoiler running/brake lights for additional rear visability. The "Back-Off" unit is for dual brakelights. Do the additional lights that I have added satisfy the the requirements for this unit or is it no good for me. Anything else out there? On the flip side I have always been in the habit of pumping my brakes 3 or 4 times just to get that same flashing effect. I simply squeeze the front brake lever quickly but without any pressure so that I don't lock up the front wheel. It's second nature now and I do it without thinking. Seems to work for me.

I installed the Back off on my 05 Ultra. I looked at the wiring diagram in the service manual. There is a red wire with yellow line that goes to the brake light on the right side (while sitting on the bike) and another red wire with yellow line on the left side of the bike. The right side is in the plastic wrapping of wires that runs to the brake light; the left side is in the wiring bundle that runs into the trunk. Made the cut in the right side and attached the wire coming from the brake light switch (now the supply wire) to the back off unit. Then cut the wire going into the trunk (secured the supply wire so not to short it out or needed to reconnect it in the future) then connected both wires, the brake light and the trunk to the other wire of the back-off unit. The back off flashes the brake lights now in the form of a V. I left the turn signals as steady red from the previous install of the HD part which converted them. Looks good and hopefully will help keep the rear of the bike from becoming a hood ornament on a cager.

Damn, Mike, I just saw your post. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I'm having the 30000 service and new rubber put on the machine so I decided to let the dealer do the install. They said it would only be an additional half hour labor, so I figured why not.

I use a like product by Kuryakyn (Panacea LED lights) in which the brake light flashes 3 times and then holds steady. Also the turn signals act as running lights ... there are some more specific post on this product ... I like them (sorry, don't have part numbers). Bought from M&M cycles at 20% off ....

I put the same ones on my road king...also changed the amber turn signal lens to
red ....love them really makes a difference with the extra running and brake light. It takes about 20 min to install the module and change the lens. I think its the best money i have spent on my bike.

I have the Kuryakan version which rapidly flashes three times with the turn signals (new red lenses) and then all three rear lights stay on.

I have yet to try it out on the road (winter mod) but it has to be better than the stock single brake light.

I ran into an old biker with an original 1980 King of the Road (now called Road King) and he had a gizmo hanging from the ape bars which he called a "back off whip." It was basically a leather whip with a clip attached that he said allowed cagers to see him more clearly. Apparently, the movement of the whip makes the bike more visible in the cagers' rear-view mirrors. A simple but clever idea. I tried to Google "back off whip" but couldn't find anything. Anyone ever of heard of this?

I just received the BACK OFF module in the mail. Can someone provide me details on where to locate the brake light wire I need to splice into on my '06 Road Glide.

I do have a service manual but not really clear where to look for the wire.
