GET A BUDDY TO HELP YOU.. AS USUAL HD'S INSTRUCTIONS ARE TUFF TO FOLLOW.. BUT ITS DUE-ABLE.. HAVE PATIENCE.. I/WE JUST DID THIS INSTALL ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO ON AN 08 RG..BETWEEN 3 OF US WE FIGUREDIT OUT .. NOT REALLY DIFFICULT
the one thing that i can add to whats already been said is to do both the installs together. what i mean is dont do the detachable kit, and then do the tour pak mount rack/tourpak. if you do, then you will find that you will have to loosen up bolts that you have already tightened.....[:@] (just to put on one bracket no less) otherwise, it is not a bad job, but take your time, and read the directions for both through and through.
Just like HogDoc, along with all the others, its due-able. The picture of my bike below is a Road King standard. I installed everything that you see, plus some you don't that never came on a Road King.
Don't see why you can't! Just get the right tools, read everything first then lay it all out, see what it may look like then ask questions if something just does not seem right! If no questions, start putting things on the bike. Easy
It was a pain in the azz when I did mine but if you do a search for detachable hardware you'll find some great step by step directions with pictures. Isaved the directions that I got off this site and wished I'd had them before I did the install. If you can't find the directions with pictures e-mail me directly at truck5c@aeneas.net and I'll send them to you.

Well, since you didn't listen to words of wisdom in THIS thread, what makes me think it matters what we say here? You bought a SG and your putting a $1500 tourpak on it and your trying to save money NOW?
OK.
Guess the next question will be, " Can I put the cruise, CB andUltra shocks on by myself?"
Havent pulled the trigger yet. Just doing some homework. The dealers are squezzing me here in Denver. Askin full MSRP... tryin to figure out a way to save a few bucks.
I had the dealer install the detachables set up on my 05 Road king for the det backrest. Sold that bike. Just got an 08 FLHTC and I also had the dealer install that for the detachable tour pak. I payed $475 parts and labor. It seems like a lot but reading all the posts about self install I just know Im gonna damage or break something. From my experiance with the RK the dealer installed it and didnt use the right spacers so when I opened the saddlebag lids they got scratched by the backrest. Dealer made good and re peainted the lids and corrected the spacer problem, so that was worth the money! So like I said based on the posts and the RK experiance I had the dealer do it especially with the Tour Pak set up!!! Now that I think of It when I pick up the new bike Marh 18th Im gonna check out the dealers work with a fine tooth comb and magnifiying glass to make sur nothing got scratched and or damaged!!!!! Think about it, do it yourself is great and you save money, damage something and In the end it will cost you more!!!!!Also the dealer installed it so its guaranteed!!!
