Am considering installing a King tourpak with detachable rack and Sundowner 2-up seat on a Street Glide myself to save on the Dealers costs to install. is it possible for a non gear-head like myself to do so?
Are there any consequences, like voiding a warranty, a likely incorrect installation, having to purchase some kind of unique $200.00 tool to do the job, etc?
Take your time and follow the directions.A Touring service manual would be a good backup. No extraordinary tools needed besides a little blue lock tite. Won't void any warranties
I'd think it would be a snap. No special tools that I can think of. The toughest thing would be mounting the detachable kit (from opinions of others on this site) and doing the wiring.
What does the dealer want dollar-wise to do it?
Oh boy, that's a tough one to answer. It's a very detailed job and it requires alot of skill and familiarity with the............aw that's a buch of BS!!!!!! You can take this on without any problem at all. Just thoroughly read the directions and disregard everything in them except the parts list! That's the only useful part of the directions IMO.
If you get stuck there are plenty of know-it-all's in here like myself to help you through it!
Seriously, I just put on a detatchable docking kit for my new tour pack and it wasn't any trouble at all. I rate it at 1 1/2 to 2 beers![8D]
Warranty ok, sometimes beer and a friend is a great help toa non gear head doing install. You buy the beer and get a real gear headto help, don't do the work just give help to friend who can't have beer until instal is complet. take the hard stuff to dealer
If you mean by non gear-head you cant build motors but can turn a wrench your OK its easy. Whenyou install the detach brackets LOOSEN the lower saddlebag muffler hanger bolts it will make installing the upper bolts alot easier. There are warranty issues. And if you just follow the picture for the set up you have ist easy. But then again I ve probably done it 200 + times. No special tools as long as you have a T-40 torx.
