I just bought an '08 Road King. At this point I am trying to decide what pipes to upgrade to. I was considering the V & H Big Shot Duals. Anybody input or other suggestions?
Sound is a "ME THING"
Get out and put your ears to work- Go to a Poker Run - Rally - Bike Night and when your ears here THAT SOUND - Then go talk to the rider............
Well I went from stock to SE slip ons to Bub 7 TD with a crossover. The stock were quiet, the SE Slip ons really did help on a good tune and they were a little throatier, but he Bub's are the ticket for me... I'm going to throw the SE slip ons on Ebay and see what happens... proably list the stock ones too, but my guess no one is buying them... I put nice HD Slash tips on the SE pipes so I guess someone wants them. Good luck check the soundbytes they are out there.
listen to others at bike night and decide. I put SuperTrapps on my RKC - they sound great. not too loud at idle or leaving the neighborhood but nice when you "need" them to be! also do a SEAC while you're at it. makes a big difference!
I bough a 2008 RK in Nov and have been listening to pipes ever since. Finally settled on V&H True Duals with Thunderhead slip-ons. They are on order and I'm looking forward to next week.
Just listen to every bike you can and when you find the ones that are for you, you will know it.
i have the big shots duals. i like them. my wife has reinharts. she likes them. (back to that sound is a subjective thing again...) but, i have to say, i like her pipes at idle better, but with some rpms, i think my v&h with quiet baffles sound better....
now realize that there is more to like about exhaust then sound. v&h are one piece (with the exception of the heat shields). others, can be 2 piece (like the reinharts). one is not necessarily better than the other, but it does have an effect on the look. also, the v&h rear pipe comes awful close to the left side side cover, while (reinharts again....) have more clearance. but more clearance there equates to more contact with flesh when backing up....
in short my advice is to look at everything you can about the pipes to determine which ones you like the best. sometimes, the smallest detail can set you off.
