I've heard Harley owners bash Harley's, even myself. Sure they have their shortcomings, but what doesn't? When someone's trashing anything I just don't listen. Let them have they're narrow minded opinions, but until they've felt that rumble, they'll never know!
I know I don't have it. (but you'll find me in the garage gazing at her like a deer in the headlights)!
Ahh, nothing like the sound of a V-twin, slightly erotic isn't it! Smell of rubber and 93 octane makes you feel a little funny!
I don't defend the name only because it is like talking to a wall at times. Those guys that never rode one but know it all! The bike isn't just a bike but a lot more. The history of a company that has been around threw the good and the bad. A lifestyle, a tradition, an american icon, and a brotherhood of freedom in a way! No matter doctor, lawyer, mother, grandpa, steel worker, or the average joe who saves every dime just to make a payment on his beloved jewel has this in common. When you strap aboard your trusty machine all your problems, bills, work, or whatever it is you have on your mind disappear ..... Ahh yes, I have it too..[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
Well said Rod... [sm=icon_rock.gif] I'm eat up with it... Hell, my wedding band has the Harley Bar and Shield on it... "D"
I too have to say I never "understood" the whole Harley thing. I owned 2 cycles when I was younger (Honda and Kaw) and sold the Honda V65 to become domesticated and gave up cycles. I was working by a HD dealer that did rentals and decided to stop in. I rented an 06 Ultra after being off cycles for 10 years and I have to say it was an adjustment (+400 lbs than my last ride). It was a cool October night here in Chicagoland and at 1:00 amI figured I should get home because the wife and I had a day of riding planned for the next day. I DID NOT WANT TO GO HOME! All it took was about 1 hour to figure out what everyone that rides a Harley already knew. It is a happy place in the soul. Did 904 miles that weekend. I have rented a 07 Road king and a 07 Ultra since..... I just hope I can pull the trigger this spring and enjoy the summer. The funny thing is my 5 1/2 year old daughter did more riding with me than the wife! It will truly be a family toy!
i have owned numerous bikes and many of them metrics... i never really considered a harley untill i road one 40 hours a week for work... changed my mind... i plan on adding a few more to the stable and they too will be harleys.... My brother was anti harley untill....... i had him take my flht for a spin, half hour later he returns with a huge smile on his face... two weeks after that he owns a rkc.... then talked dad into an ultra trike... now me dad and bro go on trips together, looking like canada this year
I don't know how to explain it but it's like finding that soul mate, that one you just can't get out of your mind. Even when I walk past her I catch myself walking away with that goofy smile on my face. I don't quite understand it afterall it's a thing, an inanimate object -- or is it?
A while back times got a little tough, had a son going off to college and the wife hinted about putting my beauty on the market... hell I went out and got a loan instead and told her in no uncertain terms, "the bike is not on the table for discussion." Hasn't come up again.
Morning ritual at the Kla$$ic household involves shat, shower, shave, meds, walk out to the garage, crack the door, sniff the tires, motor, and chrome accessories, shut the garage...........
......................go to work. Repeat qday per MD order.
I've ridden about everything you can ride - crotch rockets, sport-tourers, metric cruisers, BUT:
My HD is it!! You'll get it when you pry it from my cold dead fingers...
