Can I replace the turn signal/security module on my 02 flhtci without taking the bike to the dealer, is it a matter of plugging in the new module and thats it?
I dont see why you cant. I know its a very expensive unit and almost replaced mine until I decided to replace the 50amp CB first which fixed my problem.
Its around 275 or so, but my turn signals don't work, everything else does. Dealer told me I had to bring it in so they could reset the security for the bike, but I don't see anything in the service manual that says that...it just says to unplug the old one and replace it
If your bike has the HD factory security system then you need to "marry" the new TSSM to the onboard computer.
If your bike is of recent vintage you can do this by following the procedure in the DIY section of this forum. It involves turning ignition on and off and using turnsignals in a specified pattern and within a specified time limit.
However, if your bike is older and uses the older HD Scanalyzer you might want to have the dealer do it.
So seems like Im in the same boat. Have you changed it yet ? Mine went out while driving had to push her home a mile. But mine does the same all lights work besides the blinkers. Does your red key on the speedo stay on?
Yes it’s an easy plug/play connection and can be replaced. I would first troubleshoot to verify that that is your issue, so either electrical diagnostic manual which outlines procedure or a FSM which has electrical schematics that you can use as well.
The troubleshooting isn’t hard just time consuming. Also, I believe the TSSM is Canadian HD’s and TSM is American HD’s. I would suggest buying a new one and not used. Your local dealer can help with that, should be about $150.
When mine went out the bike wouldn’t start and signals didn’t work, turning the alarm on and off would get one side to signal but nothing else. I ended up finding the pin out for the TSSM and making a Deutsch connect to jump the ground to the starter (the TSSM interrupts the ground to the started when the alarm is on). Once jumped I was able to get the bike started, after testing for input into the TSSM for signals (which there was) I knew it was the module.
While I’m sure there is a difference between modules for Canada and USA a TSSM is Turn Signal Security Module and TSM is just Turn Signal Module.
I do agree it’s not worth buying used, to high a chance of it not working.
