Funny you mentioning that happening. I will have to keep an EAR on mine .... LOL .... When I first installed mine and BEFORE I put the fairing back on the sound DID cut out
and I thought I blew a fuse. I jiggled the all the wires and then it worked. I though I just didn't plug one of the connectors in right. Other than that I now have almost
1000 miles (even on some frost heave roads here in NH) and everything is fine.
When I had the first problem Pez told me to check the position of the gain switch to make sure it wasn't in between two settings. It indeed was, and after pushing it on up to +3 (the proper setting) it worked for a while. Oddly, the second unit was also set in between 0 and +3, which I corrected before installing, so I wonder who's QC'ing these things? But when set properly my two have still had problems that I'm trying to rectify. The answer may be to simply bypass the switch altogether and have it permanently set to +3. That would be okay with me if it would work reliably.
FWIW, I didn't mention the first problem earlier, which occurred before I wrote the review above, because I thought it was an anomaly and didn't want to divert attention away from a useful upgrade, IMO. But with this second instance I feel that I should say something, then report back what Pez ends up doing about it.
What's the outcome? Are you still happy with the amp? Is this the NCA 40.4? I'm not sure how long that one's been out, but that's Pez's new baby. Just wondering if you're still happy with the setup ...
I run the NCA 40.4 amp with the lowers kit and 4 H'tunes speakers in the fairing and TP pods. I had a problem develop a month or so ago where I was hearing a 'warbling' sound from a speaker and thought the amp was failing.
After discussions with H'tunes it turned out to be a bad capacitor on the right front fairing speaker. I could 'tap the cap' and make it cut in and out. Vibration was causing the speaker to cut in/out while moving hence the warbling sound.
Pez sent a new speaker to me at no charge of course, and I had it in my hand here in Oz from Canada in 3 days-- talk about good service!
There may be better sounding systems out there but I wouldn't bother. I have had riders near me saying they can hear my music at H'way speeds and I hardly ever crank the volume over 1/2...maybe 2/3 absolute max from time to time.
Planning to hook up my original (spare) H'tunes amp to the rear TP pod speakers and eventually get a set of the new 7" woofers for the lowers soon... then I'm done-- maybe....
Jeffite I never tried the speakers without the amp, but I think anytime you provide a power boost to decent speakers it helps.
I personally wouldn't stop at speakers alone, the amps do help produce more sound.
I had an issue with Amp nca 70.2 the older ones with red lite gave off some RF`s making radio static. The new one has a green lite. I will say hog tunes service is second to none...They shipped me out a new one and gave me a return postage for old one. I have HT tweeter pods and HT902.2 rev kit along with HF-Bag gotta say I like it a lot especially when it all goes together. Every thing matches. Great job Great products...
