My friends IDS is falling apartits all scored and crack he installed his on a Street Glide his bike is not safe to drive.Maybe its a falty IDS but the dealer contacted Harley Davidson and told them this IDS doesn't fit all touring models.They were told the 08 rim is different and the IDS on these fit all touring bikes.

I had the Ids installed by dealer about 5,000 miles ago. I just got back from 1,600 mile ride toDaytona and Key West. Jacked bike up to clean it and found that the back tire(wheel) will turn about a 1/4 round before the belt and sprocket start turning. It's like there is a lot of slack in the IDS system. Is this normal or has something gone wrong...Bldr
If you mean a 1/4" at the outer most point of the tyre then, yeah its normal. There is a small amout of freeplay.

We have to remember this isnt new technology, its just new to HD. These rubber 'cush' drives have been around for years. I certainly had one on my Kawasaki Z1b and that was 1976. I think I even had one on my Kawasaki KH triple, although not certain.

Anyway my point is there are thousands of the HD IDS out there with millions of collective miles on them, and if they were going to be a problem we would know about it by now. As for the problems a few have had I would remind us of the saying, "One swallow does not a summer make".

Gosh you're right, I miss-read the whole situation. The world is about to end, man the life boats, women and children first.[sm=boohoo.gif]

This is the second post you are incorrect on. The cast rear wheels on all Fl models have been the same since 2000. The 2007 and 2008 use the same rear wheel. I have heard of bearings going bad, there is an installer for that bearing, so I am afraid some of those failed bearings were not installed to the correct depth. The six spoke slotted wheel needs a small chamfer machined on the hub edge to allow the compensator bowl to rest on the wheel flange. The bowl will bottom out allowing it to fracture when tightened on the six spoke wheel. See the other post. The dealer informed you incorrectly.

You are correct My friend forgot to tell me that his rear wheel had been change and was one of the ones that the IDS doesn't fit. I checked at the dealer and these other rim that are stock should be fine. Again I stand corrected sorry for the mixeup. Should the wheel fit that tight after the install is this normal.

ok, I will bet no body will connect these two subjects.
the subject of this post andthe following quote.

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;

And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."
what I am saying is what I've been saying all along.
The IDS is a damn bandaid.
HD could not suffer the problems that existed for many on the 07's again in the 08's.
They didn't have the collective gonads to stand up and admit aproblem existed and take care of it. so they soin doctored everything with all kinds of flawed reasonings to get you to shut up.
Then bring out this IDS.
the point of the rant is.
You all come here to the different forums and whine and complaint and bemoan this and that.
But you don't stand up to HD and demand a proper repair.
So you get what you deserve. NOTHING.
The man above didn't stand up for his fellow men either, in the end he was left standing alone.
I keep telling you , We (the owners, buyers and riders ) have the power to correct this.
Band together.
approximately 100 colonists banded together and took England to her knees!
This is no different. Provided you all have the ***** to do it. I doubt any of you do.
And NO I don't hate HD. Just want them to take care of us owners properly!!
