If you want to go first class there's a lot of really quaint Bed and Breakfasts in Key West. Just do a Google search. But be forewarned, KW is a rather "liberal" city and some of the clientel can have an alternative lifestyle if you get my drift. A lot of the local B&Bs are either owned by, or cater to those lifestyles. But everyone seems to coexist nicely and leave each other alone so its usually only a matter of your comfort zone and tolerance.
Then of course there are the chains, Hilton and Hyatt both have neat places there. They're on the harbor, close to the Sunset Pier, Duval street, Margaritaville, Hard Rock, and the business district. I think there's a Quality Inn or a similar chain right as you come on to Key West itself. Those are all I can actually remember just off the top of my head.
You aren't retired military are you? Key West Naval Air Station has a nice visitors quarters if you are. Its located just North and East of Key West.
If you're a little more adventurous and don't mind being about 30 minutes from Key West itself, there's a neat place on Big Pine Key called Parmer's Resort. Its individual efficiency cabinsin a natural setting with boat docks, a pool, and etc. Caters to the dive and fishing crowd, but the efficiencies are clean and neat with verandas to sit on and relax. Its close to Bahia Honda which is about the best swimming beach in the Keys (there aren't many real beaches in the Keys believe it or not). I wouldn't recommend the beach in Key West itself (I was there last about 5 years ago, so maybe its changed). As I recall though its not a nice beach from the sand viewpoint, and the water is isn't reallydesirable to swim in either.
Enjoy the ride. I'm envious. I've wanted to take a trip like that for a long-time now (and I only live in Orlando). Maybe next year I can work it in.
As srf506 says, there are an abundance of great places to stay, but you'll want to review the website of any B&B you choose to see about "lifestyle" - it could be an unpleasant surprise to walk into the wrong place. I just finished a little trip that way:
great place to visit..really nice motorcycle ride down to key west....take alot of money as hotels and food are not cheap..
consider using the search tab at the top of page and type "key west" lots and lots of information..
consider checking the internet for what will be going on in key west for your planned arrival date...the location is known to have alternative lifestyle venues at times....as mentioned above it might be a bit of a shock...most stores, places to eat and action are very near to duval street.
Now I have posted this before if you are looking for a cheap stay, the Wynham (very expensive but beautiful) has a small motel next to it called the Santa Maria. The whole thing is complicated but basically the Federal Govt imposed a building moratorium on the island years ago and no one can put up a new building shell very easily. So the only easy expansion that can happen is within the shell of an existing building. That being said the Wyndham bought the Santa Maria and maintains it and the rooms are cheap.... we paid 49.99 single occupancy and 69.99 double a night in 2006. Now I would call the Wyndham to find out about it... The best part is you get to use the Wyndhams facilities... pool, Don Shulas Restauraunt, they have a beautiful pier and the best beach on the island... with waitresses on the beach slinging the booze and frozen cloths for your face and neck!
Have to admit that the lifestyle thing does not bother me... my brother is gay so had to accept that yars ago...
We just returned from Key West. We stayed at the Holiday Inn. It's located as you come across the last bridge coming onto the Island. I would not recommend Holiday Inn, not only was it old, but it is not located near anything. The closer to Duval street and Mallory square, the better. But as always the better the accommodations the more you have to spend. If you decide on Holiday Inn, ask for a poolside room, they are nicer. You can take a cab to Mallory square for 4.00 per person. We started to call our daughter and tell her to sell everything and send the money. We did not want to leave there. Also, go to Two Friends bar and grille, great food and Karoke. Bldr
I just got back from Key West as well. We stayed at the Ocean Breze Inn. It's one block off Duval near (walking distance) the public beach. We parked the bike in front of our room and didn't move it untill we left. Staying on that end does mean you have to walk "or crawl" from one end to the other of Duval st. though, which I enjoyed. Here's my trip report if you are interested https://www.hdforums.com/m_2982056/tm.htm
My wife and i stayed here last year and will stay there again when we go back. Nice rooms. Huge hot tub. Walking distance to almost everything and the owners are good people. Ask them where to go eat and they will get you to the great local places where the food is much better and a little cheaper. Diving is not so great to me neither is the snorkeling. No good beaches but much fun to be had down there. 1327 Duval Street, Key West, FL 33040

I go about every few years, but would NEVER stay in Key West itself as most places there are dirty, overpriced, crowded dumps. Used to stay instead on Pine Key buttheirmotels are sadnow too.We stay instead inMarathon, just across the Seven Mile Bridge, a nice short trip away from Key West for a good rest. Several good, clean quietmotels right next to the water, decent food nearby, Bahia Honda beach nearby, supplies nearby. We're going with a tent and an RV this year, so we'll stay at Siesta Key RV Park on Ohio Key, on the south side of the Seven Mile Bridge. Key West is great fun, but when the fun's done one needs rest. Don't forget the Half Shell Raw Bar and Hog's Breath Saloon. Margaritaville is a dive there, it's not like the Orlando/Vegas locations. I've been visiting the Florida Keys since 1971. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

My first post! I'm richard AKA roofeditor on several other sites.
Just came back from a bike ride a month ago and a plane ride (me flying) last week. I stay at the Sheraton on the ocean next door to the airport. It is family rated! Many places are not. I'm not a homophobic but if you go there with your family and go toa place that caters to the gay life you may get a beg surprise. not talking about to guys (or gals) holding hands I'm talking about 2 guys giving each other what for in plain sight at the pool. I'm not a choir boy buy that's a bit much for me and my family.
