Has anyone used the Harley Adjustable Backrest Kit on their touring bike? The one with the "gas spring" adjusting mechanism?
Whats your feelings on this piece. I am looking at the Mustang backrest also and I like the simplicity of the screw that you use to adjust it.
I bought the other HD rider's backrest and it has an adjusting screw in the back of it too. It has all the adjustment I needed and saved me a ton of $$.

If thats true I need to look at one...I was told you couldn't adjust that one. Thanks No...I looked at one today, there is NO screw on the non-adjustable model.
I just put one on the RKC. Fairly straightforward installation - about an hour or so. Took it for a test ride and it feels great. Do a search as there are several threads with good information and pictures that may be helpful. I bought my from Zanotti's and saved about $75.
It cost more but I am enjoying being able to adjust the backrest on the fly. Between the adjustable backrest and the Road Zep, greaterdistances, mycomfort has increaseda lot.
I have had the harley adjustable backrest on 2 bikes now....had a Russell Day-Long with screw type adjustable on a 96 Royal Star and like the harley adjustable much better. I like to make adjustments on the fly, which is difficult with most any of the other backrests that have some time of screw adjustment.
Being able to adjust your back angle (at least for us older guys) on longer trips while you arerollingis well worth the extra $$ and yes it will work with the Kuri heat shields.

There are three settings to adjust it up or down when you put the backrest into the bracket. Then there is a screw in the back that lets you move it forward or back. There is not a lot of foward to back adjustment, but it was plenty for me. Once I got it where I wanted it, I never needed to adjust it again.
