Mine only gets around 30 mpg in winter (the damned winter blend fuels drop it 3 or 4 mpg's) and about 34 to 36 in summer if I take it really easy on the throttle.
My bike is a wonderful machine in every way but it really sucks the fuel for some reason and I can't figure out why. I'm running a 95" stage II motor, 10.25:1 compression, 211 cams, true duals, SE air cleaner with a K&N and a PCIII.
The only thing I've not done yet is dyno tune the bike. Can I expect anything to improve with a dyno tune? When/if I do a dyno I'll ask him to adjust it for maximum fuel economy under long distance freeway conditions as this is 95% of the bike's usage. Or will it get WORSE?
I'm easy on the throttle and a mellow cruiser when on the roads - not heavy into the throttle at all and damned if I can get over 29-30 mpg in winter or maybe 35 in summer at best.
40-45 is about normal. I had a 2000 Indian Chief with the 88 S&S motor. I always got about 40-45 depending on riding style. Haven't had a chance to put enough miles on my new 07 RG to know what it gets....but lets be realistic...do we buy these things to worry about great gas milage?
SEAC, V&H Ovals on stock pipes, and PCIII on my '07 RK with only 9Kmiles on the clock so far. Getting 35-37 MPG but was expecting more like 40. Frankly though, don't care all that much. Love the ride anyway and once or twice a day, like to hear her bellow sometoo - nice angry roar - makes me feel good.
On my 06 Road king, i,m averaging anywhere between 40-45 MPG. Thats with the Stock 88, 5 spd with SE slips on, SE Air cleaner, and SERT (Canned map) no dynotune yet. If I pull my camper or HF trailer, it does drop to around 35-38mpg
Now if the weather would get just a slight bit better, I can put the gas guzzlin truck away for the summer.
My gas mileqage sucks. I didn't start checking it untiil after I aded the SE 251 cams. I usually can't make it past 140 miles on a tank full. My mileage has varied from 28 to about 34 mpg. the best mpg I got was 41mpg on a pure hwy run gas station to gas station. I have just about 5,000 miles on it now. mileage seems to have gone up a little now to about low to mid 30s.I think because I have a performance motor, I may subconciously ride it a little hard without realizing it, so I probably contribute to my poor mpg ! But I do smile a lot !!
