The SERT "marries" itself to the first ECM it is used on and then cannot be used an another ECM.
I bought a SERT recently and had my bike dyno tuned with it. I ended up with the SERT and a custom map for my bike for a total cost of $720.
Now, Im not complaining BUT . . . the SERT is simply a plug that allows access to the ECM. It probably costs HD less then $20 to produce. Nothing remains on the bike. Once you're done using the SERT, you take it off but you should always keep it with the bike unless you need emergency service on a road trip. So, the way I see it, when you buy a SERT, you are simply buying the right and means to access the ECM . . . what a racket !
Yes, you can use a SERT that has been used . BUT,it must be used with the same ECM that it was originally used with. The original SERT and ECM do notcare which bikethey're on,they only know each other and must never be separated.

Sort of, the bike doesn't really care but you must also beware that the ecm has the vin of the original bike stored on it and that will show up when the bike is hooked up to computers, digital tech and such. So if you have an ecm from another bike you better make sure you have the story to back it up if you take it to an unfamiliar shop.

OK, when was the last time you saw an ECM/SERT combo for sale. Get real.

I bought my SERT and ECM from a member here for $175. The ECM does not care what bike it's on and does not have the VIN stored in it, but you do have to marry the ECM to your bike just like the SERT is married to the ECM (if that makes any sence). Yes, mutiple people can use the one SERT, just depends on how many people you allow to ride your bike. LOL

What your REALLY paying for is the THOUSANDS of hours of reaserch and development time that it has taken to give you a product that WORKS EVERYTIME, has MANY more features than the crap that tries to FOOL the ECM, works with all the sensors the motor was designed to run with, and oh did I mention WORKS EVERYTIME.

The ECM DOES store the VIN and if you move it from one bike to another you will have to do a module replacment procedure that can be done manually or with Digital Tech!
